Welcome to my Atkinson genealogy pages. I am interested in the Atkinson surname in Bucks and Chester Co., PA only. That area of interest may expand once I’ve learned more about my Atkinson ancestors. As of now I know very little.

Atkinson was the 592^nd most common surname in the United States in 2000. It dropped to 637^th by 2010.

My most recent Atkinson ancestor is my eight times great grandmother, Isabella Atkinson, born ca 1695 in Lancashire, England. She came with her parents to Pennsylvania in 1699. She married John Carter in 1716 in Bucks Co., PA. He died in 1760, she sometime before that. Her parents:

Christopher Atkinson, born 1656 in Lancashire, married Margaret Fell there in 1679. They came to Pennsylvania in 1699. Unfortunately, he didn’t survive the trip. She married Thomas Stackhouse as a second husband in 1702/1703. He died before 1708/09 when she married her third husband John Frost. She died in 1716 in Bucks Co., PA. Christopher Atkinson’s parents:

William Atkinson, born early 1600s, presumably in Lancashire, and Ann, marriage date unknown. He died in Lancashire in 1679. Ann married, 2^nd, John Townson in 1681. I don’t know when she died. William’s parents are yet unknown.

As of now (January 31, 2023), I’ve barely researched the Atkinson family, so I have very little information on them other than what was in the above cited source and some Quaker records.
