I (Marty Grant) don't know how I am related to Jeptha Bryson, but I am quite sure he is a relative.

Jeptha Bryson was born ca 1828/29 in NC. I have no real clue as to who his parents might have been. The 1830 census shows numerous Bryson's in Western NC with a son this age. All of those are accounted for, so the 1830 census offers no clues. There is always the possibility that his birth is off a little. I only have the 1850 census to use as reference. He could be just a little younger or older. He could have been born ca 1829 in NC, but his family moved to north GA by 1830, so he could be in a household in GA at that time.

None of the early Bryson Histories mention this family.

Jeptha Bryson married Elizabeth --- before 1850 probably in Union Co, GA (no marriage record found for them there).

Ethel Updike did not mention Jeptha Bryson in her book: Armstrong, Branyon, Bryson and Allied Families of the South (1967) (See my commentary on that book). She did include his 1850 census entry, without comment.

Lawrence Wood did not mention Jeptha either, as far as I can tell in his book: Bryson Family of Western North Carolina 1664 to 1980 (1981) (See my commentary on that book). It is possible he is in there somewhere (the book is not indexed), but I don't recall seeing him.

Jeptha and his wife were listed in Union Co, GA for the 1850 census. Based on some of his neighbors, it seems he was not in the Towns County section (formed in 1856), but rather, in a section that became Fannin County in 1854. All the other Bryson's in Union were in the section that later became Towns County. This may indicate he wasn't closely connected with the other Bryson families that were there, though that isn't necessarily the case.

In 1854 the section of Union County where they lived (and part of Gilmer county) was cut off to form Fannin County. There neighbors (from 1850) were found in 1860 Fannin Co, GA, but Jeptha and family were not listed. I don't know where they moved to, nor if they died before 1860. I checked the 1860 census index and found no "Jeptha Bryson" listed anywhere.
