I (Marty Grant) don't know how or if I'm related to Daniel Campbell. I am very interested in him though.
Daniel Campbell was born ca 1789/90 in Marion Dist, SC (per the 1850 census). The 1830 and 1840 census both give his approximate birth as 1800/10. I don't think he ever married, or if he did, I don't know to who, nor do I know of any children. By 1850 he seemed to live in the Temperance Hill area of Marion Dist, SC.
There were two Daniel Campbell's in Marion County at the same time, and they were roughly the same age, so I'm not entirely sure if I have their records properly sorted out. One was a son of Edward Campbell (c1755/65) and Mary McLellan, and this entire family moved to FL before 1820, though it isn't clear if Daniel went at that time or not.
It is also possible that there was only one Daniel Campbell in the county, and that he remained behind in SC after the family went to FL. I'm just not sure yet. It is also possible he went to FL too but returned. Usually, when there are two adult's with the same name doing business in a county, they would find some way to distinguish themselves. If they had a middle name, they would use it (of the initial), if not, they would get some form of appellation, such as "Sr" for the older one, and "Jr" for the younger one, or perhaps their occupation, or place name of the area they lived would be added to their name to distinguish them. I haven't found anything like this in regards to Daniel Campbell.
On 9 Oct 1812, Daniel Campbell was a witness to a deed between Jesse Rouse and Gilbert McEachern. The deed mentioned land that bordered Edward Campbell. That makes this Daniel likely the same one who is son of Edward. (Marion Dist, SC Deed Book F page 364).
On 14 May 1816 Daniel Campbell's "mark" was recorded in the deed book. This is the mark he used to identify his livestock ("a swallow fork and under half moon in each ear"). (Marion Dist, SC Deed Book F page 356).
On 1 Oct 1816 Daniel Campbell witnessed a deed between Edward Campbell and Neil McCormage. Since this was Edward Campbell, this Daniel is certainly the one who is son of Edward. (Marion Dist, SC Deed Book F page 367).
It was around this time (1816) that Edward Campbell and family all left for Escambia Co, FL. At that time, Florida was not a state. It is assumed that his son Daniel went there at the same time. Gloria Manna, a descendant of Edward Campbell, has shared data with me on his line, and on his son Daniel, but she, like me, is not sure that there were two different Daniel's.
On 2 Sep 1819 Daniel Campbell sold 150 acres to Mary Campbell (don't know who this is) for land on the south side of Little Pee Dee River. Daniel Campbell signed with an "X", all of the witnesses above were not with a mark, so that may indicate this is a different Daniel. This land borders land owned by Hugh Campbell per the deed. I don't know which Hugh Campbell this is referring to, but there was a Hugh E. Campbell in Marion on the 1820 census, he was born before 1775, so that makes him old enough to be father of this Daniel. Witnesses to this deed included Peter Rogers and Benjamin Lewis. (Marion Dist, SC Deed Book I page 125).
The 1820 census (or taxlist) for Santa Rosa County, FL (Escambia was part of that at that time) shows Edward Campbell and his son Charles Campbell, and several other Campbell's listed, but no Daniel.
The 1820 Marion Dist, SC census shows a Daniel Campbell listed as head of household. This Daniel had an apparent wife and two daughters with him (this fits perfectly with Daniel son of Edward, based on Gloria Manna's data). Unfortunately, the 1820 census was alphabetized, so we can't determine where Daniel lived exactly, nor who his neighbors were. If this Daniel is the son of Edward (as I think it is), then the other Daniel may be the older male residing with Hugh E. Campbell in this census.

The 1821 census for West Florida (included Escambia at that time) shows Edward Campbell and his son Charles Edwards, and a John Edwards, but no Daniel.
On 10 May 1823 Daniel Campbell and Duncan Campbell (don't know which Duncan) were named as appraisers of the estate of Neill McQueen, deceased. Daniel (son of Edward) had a brother named Duncan who remained in Marion. (Marion Dist, SC Inventory Book 2 page 218).
On 29 Nov 1823 Daniel Campbell was one of several purchasers at the estate sale of Malcolm McLellan, deceased. It should be noted that Daniel's (son of Edward) mother was Mary McLellan. (Marion Dist, SC Sales Book A page 17)
Daniel Campbell was listed on the 1824 tax list for Marion Dist, SC and charged $1.57 for taxes.
On 18 Mar 1825 Daniel Campbell was named as an appraiser for the estate of John McEachern, deceased. Two of Daniel's (son of Edward) brothers married McEacherns. (Marion Dist, SC Inventory Book 2 page 204)
On 21 Aug 1826 Daniel Campbell, "Esquire" and James Campbell were among the purchasers at the estate sale of Murdoch McInnis. I don't know which James Campbell this was. (Marion Dist, SC Sales Book A page 25).
On 9 Nov 1826 Daniel Campbell was named as an appraiser for the estate of Duncan Carmichael, deceased. (Marion Dist, SC Inventory Book 2 page 5)
On 15 Dec 1829 Daniel Campbell was one of the purchasers at the estate sale of John McCuaige, deceased. (Marion Dist, SC Sales Book A page 44)
Gloria Manna's data shows that Daniel Campbell's (son of Edward) first wife died ca 1829, and he then married Christian McMillan ca 1830, presumably in FL.
I found Edward Campbell listed in 1830 Escambia Co, FL, but Daniel was not listed there. I found a Daniel in 1830 Gadsden Co, FL and one in Walton Co, FL (borders Escambia).
The 1830 census for Marion Dist, SC shows a Daniel Campbell listed, with no family. His age is not an exact match to be the Daniel born ca 1789/90, but it could be him. I didn't find any other Daniel's listed in Marion. Unfortunately, this census was alphabetized, so we can't be sure who his neighbors were. He had no wife or children with him, apparently.

On 1 Dec 1832 Daniel Campbell was a purchaser at the estate sale of Hugh Campbell, deceased. This is Hugh Campbell son of Peter Campbell. (Marion Dist, SC Sales Book A page 172)
There was no Daniel Campbell listed in Escambia Co, FL in 1840.
Daniel Campbell was listed on the 1840 census in Marion Dist, SC. He was listed near members of the Peter Campbell family including Duncan, son of Peter, and Martha, widow of Archibald (son of Peter) and others. He was just one page away from Margaret, widow of his possible brother Duncan Campbell. Just like in 1830, his age is not a perfect match, but it is most likely him. He was living alone, with no one else in the household.
1840 census analysis (based on available evidence): (Explanation of this census)
1840 Marion District, SC pg 154 Daniel Campbell 0000010000000-0000000000000 Analysis: 1 Male(s) 30-39 (1800-1810) Daniel CAMPBELL (1789/90)
For the 1850 census, Daniel was still alone. His neighbors seem to be residents of the Temperence Hill community on or near Maiden Down Swamp.
1850 MARION DIST, SC Page 63B House/Family # 942/ 947 CAMPBELL DANIEL 60 M W NONE MARION 1789/1790
There was no trace of him in Marion District after 1850. I don't know where he went to, or if he died around this time. I have a note that this Daniel died in 1850, but I don't know what the source for that is.
So, based on all of the above, it does seem likely that there was only one Daniel Campbell, and that he is the son of Edward Campbell of Marion Dist, SC and Escambia Co, FL (now Santa Rosa County). However, I'm not 100% sure, so I'm going to leave it up in the air until some better evidence comes along.
