Chancey / Chauncey Genealogy - North Carolina
Welcome to my Chancey / Chauncey genealogy pages. I am interested in the Chancey surname in 1700s North Carolina.
My most recent Chancey ancestor is my five times great grandmother, Pleasant Chancey, born before 1755, possibly in Bladen Co., NC or perhaps in Pasquotank Co., NC. She married Daniel Smith in 1776 in Chatham Co., NC. They remained in that county where he died in 1791, and she in 1815. Her parents:
Daniel Chancey, was born ca 1710 or earlier, perhaps in Perquimans Co., NC. He married Ann — in 1735 in Pasquotank Co., NC. I don’t know her maiden name. He was a Quaker, but she wasn’t, so he was dismissed from the church for the marriage. They moved to Opecking, VA in 1737. They were soon back in Pasquotank. They went to Bladen Co., NC by 1755 and were there through at least 1757. By 1761 they were in Orange Co., NC, now Chatham County. I don’t know when they died, though after 1762, presumably in what is now Chatham Co., NC.
As of now (February 17, 2023), I’ve barely researched the Chancey family, so I have very little information on them. More research is needed. The Quaker records in Pasquotank and Perquimans have information on them and other Chancey families, perhaps all connected.
