Cross Genealogy - Western NC
Welcome to my Cross genealogy pages. I am interested in the Cross surname in Western North Carolina.
Cross was the 382nd most common surname in the United States in 2000. By 2010 it had dropped to 420th.
My most recent Cross ancestor is my six times great grandmother, Mary Cross, born ca 1750/60 in either Virginia or Pennsylvania. Her suspected brother, Joseph Cross, was born in Loudoun Co., VA in 1747, so perhaps she was too. However, the family did move into Pennsylvania sometime after his birth, perhaps before she was born. They moved to Lincoln Co., NC by the mid 1780s. She married John Miller, probably before the move from Pennsylvania. They left Lincoln for Buncombe County in the 1790s where John Miller died ca 1819. She remained there awhile, then joined some of her children in Macon Co., NC where she died in 1843.
Her parents are unidentified, but I strongly suspect she is Joseph Cross’s younger sister, and perhaps also a sibling of John and Solomon Cross.
