!NOTE:From Deryl Young via e-mail dated Apr 14, 2001:
Marty, Gilbert Johnson (c. 1818) on your site is the son of Samuel Johnson (b.ca 1775-1794 per 1820 census) and wife Dorcus (last name unk.).
Proof for this is from Horry Deed Bk L - page 421 dated 27 May 1829 - Gilbert Johnson to Thomas A. Beaty for $150 - tract of 200 ac. in Horry on Lake Swamp granted to John Lambert 10 Oct. 1769 and heired (sic) by said Johnson as a part of the estate of his father Samuel Johnson dec., known as #4 in said division. Wit: Lewis Scarborough, Samuel C. Johnson.
Further proof - from the estate of Samuel Johnson (Horry probate bundle 6, package 6) - Dorcus Johnson and William Todd were appointed adminstrators on 13 Mar. 1823.
-from the account of the estate of Samuel Johnson by Wm. Todd, adm. - 4 May 1825 - To amt. of Dr. Britton per Mrs. Johnson on account of the child Gilbert - $10.00.
-Rc'd 19 Dec. 1826 of Wm. Todd, the whole of the w/in named notes being the property of the w/in named Elizabeth and Gilbert Johnston (minors) & heirs of the estate of Samuel Johnston, dec.
Thomas A. Beaty, guardian
-Rc'd 19 Dec. 1826 of Wm. Todd, the whole of the w/in named notes being the property of the w/in named Samuel and Hugh Johnston (minors) & heirs of the estate of Samuel Johnston, dec.
Thomas A. Beaty
Samuel Johnson (Johnston at times)
mar. Dorcus and had issue:
1. Gilbert Johnson (b.ca.1818)
2. Samuel C. Johnson (b. ca. 1818)
3. Hugh Johnson (b. ca. 1821)
4. Elizabeth Johnson (b. ca. 1810-1820)
I hope this will help straighten out some of our Johnson lines - and one day, put them all in the proper place. Regards, Deryl
