In the name of God Amen, I William Johnson of the District and State aforesaid, Planter, being of sound, disposing mind, memory and understanding, do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following viz:
Imprimis - - - I give devise and bequeath unto my son John H. Johnson the following negro slaves together with their future issue and increase viz. Sal, Daphne & child Sam, Tena, Jim, Toney, Ned, Old Ben & Hasty his wife to him and his heirs and assigns forever.
Item, To my son William H. Johnson, I give devise and bequeath the following negro Slaves, viz. Binah, Rose, Charlotte, Eff, Miley, Harriet, Ben, son of Hasty, Frank son of Hasty and Sampson together with their future issue and increase, to him and his heirs and assigns for ever.
Item, To my son Daniel M. Johnson, I give devise and bequeath, the following negro slaves viz: Jack, Harry, Ben Frank, Sye and Sam to him and his heirs and assigns forever.
4 Item, To Sarah B. Woodberry I give devise and bequeath the following negro slaves viz: George, Rose, Hester, and her child together with their future issue and increase to her and her heirs and assigns forever.
Item , To my son-in-law Dr. Samuel Hodges I give devise and bequeath the following negro slaves to wit: Tom, Pat, Sam and Pat's child together with their future issue and increase, to him and his heirs and assigns forever.
6 Item, to my daughter Mary Sarvis I give devise and bequeath a negro man named Jacob and after her death to the heirs of her body living at the time of her death.
Item, To my daughter Temperance Johnson, I give, devise and bequeath the following negro slaves Sanda, Hiram and Sam to her and her heirs and assigns forever.
Item, I give devise and bequeath unto my wife Elizabeth Johnson (during her natural life or during her widow-hood which ever shall soonest happen) and to her children, viz Prudence Johnson, Joseph Johnson, Thomas Johnson, James R. Ervin Johnson, Saml . Johnson and Randolph Johnson, and to such other of my as may hereafter be born and who may be living at the time of my death all the rest and residue of my Estate both real and personal, of what kind or nature or wheresoever situate, to which I may be entitled at the time of my death, subject to the following limitations and provision viz: Provided, that at the death or marriage to my wife (whichever may soonest happen) her portion and interest shall from and after that event become a part of my Estate and subject to be divided among my children begotten, or to be begotten on the body of my said wife.
And provide also, that in case any of my children begotten on the body of my Said Wife, Shall die a minor and unmarried, that the part or portion to which such child or children so dying may be entitled shall become a part of the residue of my Estate and subject to division among my children begotten on the body of my Said wife.
And provide also that in apportioning and allotting the rest and residue of my Estate above named that a female negro slave named Mary Ann together with her future issue and increase, be allotted to my son James R. Ervin Johnson in part of his portion of my Estate.
Lastly- I do hereby nominate, constitute and appoint my two sons, John H. Johnson and Wm. H. Johnson Executors of this my last Will and Testament and hereby revoking and declaring null and void all other & former Wills & Testaments in testimony whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this Sixth day of April Anno Domini Eighteen hundred and Thirty Three- The name "Sam Johnston" interlined before Signed
