1. Mary was born a Campbell, had some children out of wedlock. Doesn't seem the case.
2. Mary was born a (---?), married James Jackson (son of James R), ca 1861. He died ca 1863, leaving her a widow. She then married a Mr. Campbell ca 1865, he died before 1870. She had two children with him. This theory works. 1880 and 1900 census show her as "widow", last child born ca 1872 (per 1880 census) which is well after 1870 widowhood, but that date could be off slightly;
