Boyd Jasper "B.J." Sawyer, 70, died in a car accident on February 2, 2012. Mr. Sawyer was born in Mullins, S.C., a son of the late Olin M. and Ernestine Collins Sawyer and spent much of his time in Myrtle Beach before moving to Belmont, N.C. Mr. Sawyer spent his life helping friends and strangers. He served a short term in the National Guard. Mr. Sawyer spent his working years managing a convenience store. He spent his retirement years with his dear friends and his loving family in Cramerton and Belmont, N.C. and his family in South Carolina. He was president of the Mayworth Residence Activity Committee. He will be missed for his jokes, his stories and his kind deeds. He will always be in our hearts. He is survived by, his son, Rodney Sawyer and daughter-in-law Michele Jarbeau and dogs Caesar and Miley of Belmont, N.C.; and sisters and brother, Mary Alice Merdith of Johnsonville, S.C., Howard Sawyer of Marion, Sarah Lawton of Myrtle Beach, Shelby (Emory) Boette of Columbia, S.C. and Hazel Rogers of Mullins, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Sawyer was pre-deceased by a brother, Olin M. Sawyer, Jr. and a sister, Magdalene Drew. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon, February 5, from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. at Cox-Collins Funeral Home of Mullins, S.C. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home. Burial will be in Devotion Gardens Cemetery. A Memorial service honoring BJ's life will be held at Mayworth School Apartments in Cramerton, N.C. on Wednesday, February 8th at 4:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Mayworth School Apartments B.J. Sawyer Memorial Fund. 236 8th Ave. Cramerton, N.C. 28032, Attn. Office.
