Mrs. Dorothy Lee Dozier McIntyre, widow of Mr. Robert Joseph McIntyre, Sr., died at her Sunnyside Farm home in the Wahee Community, Marion County, SC, on April 7, 2018. She was a daughter of the late Whiteford C. and Flossie Coleman Dozier of Centenary, SC, and was born on August 9, 1921, in Marion County.
Mrs. McIntyre is survived by her four children: Dorothy Robin McIntyre Moseley, Irmo, SC; Robert Joseph “Joe” McIntyre, Jr. (Rhonda), Marion; Betsy Anne McIntyre Roberts (Roy), Marion; and Alexander “Al” Douglas McIntyre (Marie), Marion. Her seven grandchildren are: Robert Scott Moseley (Melinda), Chapin; Robert Alexander McIntyre (Charley), Latta; Jonathan Edward Roberts, Marion; Mark Dozier Roberts (Erika), Marion; Brett Leigh McIntyre Brigman, Marion; Lee Anne Roberts Elliott (Brant), Hemingway; and Addie Marie McIntyre Taylor (Chris), Marion. Mrs. McIntyre is survived, also, by nine great grandchildren: Alexander McIntyre and Katherine Elizabeth Moseley, Sophia McLain and George McIntyre Roberts, Hendley Ann and Hamilton Alexander McIntyre, Alyssa Debra Brigman, Aiden Alexander McIntyre, and Brennan Booth Taylor. In addition, she is survived by her youngest sister Patricia Ann “Shan” Dozier Prickett (Mackie), Lexington, SC; and numerous special nieces and nephews.
Mrs. McIntyre’s siblings who predeceased her: sister Elizabeth Dozier Shelley, brothers Wyburn Cameron Dozier, Edgar P. T. Dozier, James Carlisle Dozier, William Bryan Dozier, and Robert Winston Dozier. She was also predeceased by her daughter-in-law Debra Ann Rogers McIntyre.
Prior to her marriage, Mrs. McIntyre worked with the State Office of Agriculture Adjustment Administration in Columbia, SC. Upon the untimely death of her mother, Mrs. McIntyre returned to the Dozier family home in Centenary to help her father care for her two youngest siblings. Dot Dozier and Robert McIntyre were married on January 9, 1944. After his accidental drowning in September 1956, Mrs. McIntyre continued to rear their children at the McIntyre home in Wahee. She was employed over the years at the SC State Highway Department; Finger Clinic; SC Industries, Inc.; and Gasque-Clemmons Insurance Company.
Mrs. McIntyre was an active member of the Marion Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) where she served as the first female Deacon and Ruling Elder. Other service included Sunday school teacher, Women of the Church, and church historian. Community activities included volunteering at the Marion Clothing Closet, Marion County Public Library, and Marion School District 1; she was an active member of the Marion County Genealogical Society. She, also, particularly enjoyed classes at Francis Marion University.
Family and friends are invited to visit with the McIntyre family Monday, April 9, 6:00-8:00 p.m., Marion Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, 208 South Main Street, Marion. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Dorothy Dozier McIntyre will be Tuesday, April 10, 4:00 p.m., Marion Presbyterian Church sanctuary with a reception afterwards in the church fellowship hall. A family burial service was at the McIntyre Family Cemetery, Sunnyside Farm, Wahee Community, April 8.
The McIntyre family appreciates the loving care, visits, cards, prayers, and multiple kindnesses provided by their extended family, church members, friends, neighbors, caregivers, and hospice staff. Should one wish to remember Mrs. McIntyre with a memorial gift, Marion Presbyterian Church, POB 186, Marion, SC 29571, was a vital part of her life, and she greatly benefited from the ministry of this congregation.
