Mrs. Gladys Turner Capps, 83, widow of Edwin Lawson Capps, Sr., died Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at her home after an illness. Mrs. Capps was born August 26, 1927 in Marion County, a daughter of the late Arnie T. and Lula Byrd Turner. She had retired as the industrial sewing teacher for Marion-Mullins Vocational Center. Mrs. Capps was a member of Marion First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Happy Timers and the Glory Singers. Surviving Mrs. Capps are: her children: Michael Alan (Laura) Capps of Florence, Marshall Randall "Randy" Capps, Sr. of Marion, Sheryl Lynn Capps of Surfside, Timothy Everette "Tim" Capps of Marion and Edwin Lawson Capps, III of Marion; her Grandchildren: Nikki, Paden, Randy, Jr., Amanda, Jessica, Crystal, Heath, Shawn, Luke, Lawson, Chet and Cody; 10 Great Grandchildren; a Sister: Geneva Leonard of Shreveport, La.; and a Special Nephew: Joe Sawyer of Marion. Mrs. Capps was pre-deceased by a son, Edwin Lawson "Eddie" Capps, Jr. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, June 26 at Marion Baptist Church, with the Rev. Daniel Inabinet and the Rev. Willie Gillard officiating. Entombment will follow in Red Hill Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, directed by Smith-Collins Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Saturday evening at Smith-Collins Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staff of Shepherd Care Hospice for their love and care for Mrs. Capps.
