Marty and Karla Grant

Shelby had an extensive career in music with a Master's Degree in Music from Midwestern University, Wichita Falls, TX. She was extremely talented and could play the piano anywhere, anytime, anything she wanted to play. Of course, she could read music but she also had the unusual talent of being able to play by ear, any turn you wanted to hum a bit for her. She also played the organ extremely well and at the time of her untimely death, was Organist for Green Acres Baptist Church, Tyler, Smith Co, TX. Before that, she was the pianist for several churches around Tyler. For many years she had her own private piano studio and taught hundreds of pupils to play the piano. She also played for many weddings and funerals and was much sought after for the hymns and other songs she played so well. Her tombstone has music notes and indeed her very expressive music lingers on for all those who heard her play. She really made "a joyful noise" for the Lord. - Rex Kirby
