I am finally finding some time to work on my own and my wife’s genealogy (the cobbler’s children syndrome). My wife is descended from John Mills Tufts, a 1820 graduate of West Point who was assigned to various artillery units in Brunswick Co., NC. He was born in New York in 1801. While in Brunswick County, he married Miss Mary Davis posting the £500 bond with S.B. Everitt on 4 April 1822 while a Lt. in the 3rd Artillery (as indicated on the bond). In 1823 he resigned his commission and returned with his bride to Blazing Star, Middlesex Co., NJ where Mary died in 1843. The family records show Mary’s full name as “Mary Wilson Davis”. I also note that Sterling B. Everitt is in the adjoining household to Wilson Davis of Brunswick Co. in the 1820 census and about 4 households away from Bartholomew and on the same page with the other Davis families of Brunswick Co. Sterling B. Everitt is also listed in the 1830 census several households away from Wilson Davis.

The 1820 census shows that Wilson had two daughters under 10 which would seem a little young for one of them to be the wife of John M. Tufts. She is listed in the 1840 census of Middlesex Co., NY as 30-40 and age 20-30 in the 1830 census living with her husband in the household of her father-in-law, Joshua B. Tufts. There seems to be a connection to Wilson Davis but I’m not sure at this point what it is.
