Regarding Richard Grant who married Eliza Mitchell in 1852, he was apparently murdered in Texas. I'm researching Eliza's father, for whom Mt. Mitchell in NC is named. Among his papers in the Manuscript collection at UNC's Wilson Library is a letter from Eliza talking about it.
