!NOTE:From Phil Moser:
William Burch and Rebbeca (Keys)? VIRGINIA REV WAR PENSION APPLICATIONS Burch (Birch) William (Rebecca) - W27940; Blwt114831-160-55. 12 Feb 1828, Surry Co., NC. William Burch of said county, aged 70, declares he enlisted end of Feb 1776 in Albemarle Co, VA, for 3 yrs in the co of Capt Thomas Walker, who resigned & was succeeded by Capt William Henderson, in the regiment of Col Geo Matthews, and served until Apr 1777 when he was detached under Col Morgan & marched to Saratoga under Capt Henderson. He was discharged at Valley Forge in Feb 1778 by Col Wm Russell, commander of Gen Muhlenburg's brigade. He served 8 or 9 months in the militia and was at the capture of Lord Cornwallis. He did not apply earlier because he was possessed of property. The failure of a person indebted to him and a lameness which compelled him to go on crutches a long time reduced him to poverty. He sold 200 acres on Mitchell's River to John Frost on 20 Jul 1818 and received a bond for $800; of that, $740 is unpaid and Frost has been entirely sold out by the Sheriff. The interest on the bond was what Burch lived on. He has a tract of 50 acres worth about $30 to which he has no legal title. Executions are now in the hands of the Sheriff against him for $56. All his family are dead and he is entirely alone. He has been affected with rheumatism about 6 or 7 yrs and went on crutches for 12 months. He is blind in one eye. He owns 2 hogs, desk, Dutch over and skillet, 4 plates, table, 3 chairs, 4 knives & forks, and a chest.
