!OBITUARY:
Mrs. Carlene Smith Bane, 97, widow of Robert Russell “Bobby” Bane, of Mullins, went to be with Jesus on March 15, 2023, at her residence with her loving family by her side, after a period declining health.
Mrs. Bane was born on May 29, 1925, in the Gapway Community of Mullins, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Carl Aubrey Smith and the late Inez Page Smith. She retired as Secretary of the Marion County Board of Education after 44 years of service. She held numerous positions within the county over the years. She was a member of Mullins First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her children Barbara (Johnny) Long of Mullins, Russell Bane (Elizabeth Rivers) of North Myrtle Beach, Jerry Bane of Nichols, and Robyn Bane of Mullins; Eight grandchildren: Jon (Laura) Long of Pelion, Brandy (Phil) Mostowski of Mullins, Kim (Jim) Pike of Little River, Leigh (Eric) Owens of North Myrtle Beach, Jamie (John) Sandifer of Simpsonville, Maury Bane of Aynor, Jason (Becky) Bane of North Myrtle Beach, and Ryanna Bane of Mullins; nine great grandchildren: Colby and Fysher Pike, Wesley Bane, Carley and Bradley Mostowski, Ean and Ivy Bane, Blakelee and Levi Sandifer; three step-grandchildren: Janie Green, Madison and Ella Mincey; three brothers: George (Betty) Smith, Reggie (Evelyn) Smith, Glynn Smith; and a sister-in-law, Cadell Smith of Mullins; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Bane was predeceased by her husband, Robert R. “Bobby” Bane, three sisters, Audrey Wallace and Betty Jo King of Mullins, and Doris Upchurch of Savannah, two brother, Haskell Smith of Mullins and Carl Jr. Smith of Dillon, a daughter-in-law, Nancy G. Bane; and a granddaughter-in-law, Amy P. Bane.
The family will receive friends and well-wishers one hour prior to the service on Friday, March 17 from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. in the Fellowship Hall of Mullins First Baptist Church.
The funeral service for Mrs. Bane will follow at 2:00 P.M. in the Sanctuary of Mullins First Baptist Church, with Rev. Robbie Baxley and Rev. Jon Long officiating. Mrs. Bane will be laid to rest following the service in Cedardale Cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home of Mullins.
