!NOTES:Matthew Stewart made his Will on 26 Jan 1808, and may have died that same day or soon after. That is the death date used on his tombstone, placed more than a hundred years after his death. His marker is at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Mint Hill, Mecklenburg Co., NC, which is very close to where he lived.
In his Will he named his wife Elizabeth. After her death land was to be divided between William McCall and Samuel Black, his son-in-laws. He also named sons Henry, William, James and Reuben Stewart, and daughter Sarah Coburn, and son John. He named his son-in-law Samuel Black as sole executor. He signed the Will with a mark. Witnesses were David Moor and Reuben Stewart and Azariah Coburn. The Will was proven in court April 1808, meaning he had died by then. I would suggest that is probably closer to when he died than the actual date of the Will, but I could be wrong.
