REX MILLARD GEORGE passed away in Houston on Saturday, February 19, 2005 at the Treemont Health Care Center. He had been a resident for the past eight years. He was born on November 14, 1908 in Hamburg, Oklahoma to James Robinson George and Margie Frances Millard George. He moved with his parents to San Benito, Texas in 1908, and then became the first residents of nearby Rio Hondo, Texas 1911. Rex graduated with Honors from John Tarleton Agricultural (Junior) College in 1927. He married Mollie Lee Brown in Gatesville, Texas on June 21, 1931. After marriage, they lived in Rio Hondo, until moving to Houston in 1937. Rex was a Railway Mail Clerk from 1937 to 1962, retiring in 1969 as a supervisor in the Downtown Houston Post Office. His wife Mollie Lee passed away on November 20, 1991. In January of 1997, Rex sold his home in Southside Place and moved to Treemont Retirement Home. In January of 2003 he moved to the Treemont Health Care Center. He was a longtime member of West University Baptist Church from 1948 to 1998 and a member of Tallowood Baptist Church since 1998. He was Member and Past Master of West University Masonic Lodge #1292 AF&AM; Past Master of Rio Hondo, Texas Lodge #1246 AF&AM; and Member of J.W. Chandler Daylight Lodge #1453 AF&AM. Rex received his 65 year Service Award in Texas AF&AM in 1995. He was a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member if Ruthven Commandery #2KT (Knights Templar). He was a member of Arabia Temple Shrine, a Past Worthy Patron West University Chapter #933 of the Order of Eastern Star. Rex is survived by two sons; Jeff George and wife Lou Nelle of Midland, and Bill George and wife Elizabeth of South Houston; five granddaughters, Katherine Nalbone and husband Torey of Tyler, Emily Hall and husband Scott of Garland, Melanie McVeigh and husband Todd of Frisco, Judy Kinnamore and husband David of Southlake, and Janet Courrege and Husband Emile of The Woodlands; six great-grandchildren, Adrienne and Sarah Nalbone, Ryan and Mallory Hall and Caroline and Allison Kinnamore; sister Carol Auvenshine of Kingsland. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5 to 8 P.M. on Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at The Settegast-Kopf Co. Funeral Directors, 3320 Kirby Drive. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. on Wednesday, February 23, 2005 in The Chapel of The Settegast-Kopf Co. Funeral Directors. Interment will follow at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions maybe made to The West University Masonic Lodge #1292, 6125 Edloe Houston, Texas 77005 or West University Baptist Church, 6218 Auden Houston, Texas 77096.
