Mary Reed George, 97, of Lynchburg, died after a short illness on Sunday, October 17, 2010 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the widow of Mike Herman George, Sr. Mary was born on March 4, 1913 in Craig County, Virginia, a daughter of the late Clara Belle and George Heilman Reed. She grew up in Miller Park where her father was Superintendent of Parks. Mary was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. She is also preceded in death by her grandson, Edward Thomas George, and her five siblings: Esther Reed, Christine White, Virginia George, Mabel Louise Wingfield, and Carl Reed. Mary is survived by her three children: Mike H. George, Jr, and his wife Yuriko, of Tacoma, WA, Thomas R. George, and Mary Ferguson, and her husband Sanford, all of Lynchburg; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Dennis Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Central and Western Virginia Chapter, 1160 Pepsi Place, Suite 306, Charlottesville, VA 22901, 434-973-6122, www.alz.org.
