!NOTES:Joseph Fouts appeared in Ashe County in 1810. He may be a son of John Leonard Fouts and Catherine Shearer. However there are other possibilities. He was born ca 1779 in NC. If John L. is his father, then he was probably born in Rowan County.

Joseph lived on Beaver Creek in Ashe as did Jacob Fouts (c1786), also thought to be a child of John Leonard Fouts.

!CHILDREN:Joseph & Susan had several children according to the 1810 through 1850 census records. Only two are positively identified - Squire who was still home in 1850, and Susan who was living with Squire in 1880 listed as his sister.

Sons:

1. Unknown son born ca 1804/10. Home in 1810 (0-9), 1820 (10-15 (1804/10) and 1830 (20-29). Gone by 1840. This has to be Jacob Fouts (c1804) who fits perfectly and was married and on his own by 1840 in Ashe County. He later moved to Pike Co., KY as did George below.

2. Unknown son born ca 1815/20. Home in 1820 (0-9), 1830 (10-14) and 1840 (20-29). Gone by 1850. This has to be George Fouts (c1820) who fits perfectly and was married and on his own by 1850 in Ashe. He later moved to Pike Co., KY as did Jacob above.

3. Unknown Son (1825/30). Home in 1830 (0-4) and in 1840 (10-14). Gone by 1850. Don't know who he is. No matching male Fouts in Ashe County in 1850.

4. Squire Sidney Fouts (c1828). Home in 1830 (0-4), 1840 (10-14) and in 1850 ("Sidney" age 22).

Daughters:

1. Unknown daughter born ca 1794/1800. Home in 1810 (10-15), gone by 1820. Might be other than a daughter.

2. Unknown daughter born ca 1804/1810. NOT home in 1810. Home in 1820 (10-15). Gone by 1830. Don't know who she is.

3. Unknown daughter born ca 1804/1810. NOT home in 1810. Home in 1820 (10-15), home in 1830 (20-29). Gone by 1840. Don't know who she is.

4. Unknown daughter born ca 1810/20. Home in 1820 (0-9), gone by 1830. Don't know who she is.

5. Susan Fouts (c1822). Home in 1830 (5-9), home in 1840 (15-19), gone by 1850.
