Revision History:

·        3 Mar 2008 - Created by Marty Grant.

Special thanks to Everett Floyd and Martha Miller for data shared on this family.

Frederick Floyd (Sr) was born ca 1765/1774 per his ages on the 1800 and 1810 census. His parents are unknown.

Frederick wasn't listed on the 1790 census in Georgetown District as far as I could find. He may have still been home with his parents. Samuel Floyd (Sr) and Moses Floyd (Sr) are the only ones in the area in 1790 who had apparent sons Frederick's age. That doesn't automatically mean that one of them is his father, but that could be the case.

Frederick Floyd married someone in the 1790's. The only clue to her name that I've seen is that there is a widow Sarah (---) Floyd listed on the 1820 census after Frederick died. It seems likely that she was his wife. Others have come to this same conclusion but I don't know if there is any solid evidence that Sarah was Frederick's wife.  Sarah was born ca 1765/1774. Her maiden name is unknown.

Frederick is listed on the 1800 census in Georgetown District:

There were two Frederick Floyds listed on the 1810 census in Horry. This one was listed as Frederick Sr. The other, Frederick Jr.  The younger one is a proven son of James Floyd (bef 1755).

There is only one Frederick Floyd listed on the 1820 census in Horry and it is the younger of the two. This Frederick appears to have died before 1820. As noted earlier there is a widow Sarah Floyd listed who is probably Frederick's widow.

Sarah (---) Floyd  wasn't listed on the 1830 census in Horry as far as I could find. She may have been dead by then, or perhaps remarried or just living with other relatives and no longer a head of household herself. Her son Hardy Floyd had a female age 40-49 (c1780/90) with him in 1830. That isn't a perfect age match, but it could be Sarah. Frederick Floyd had a female with him in 1840 age 60-69 (1770/80) who could be Sarah.

I have no further data on Sarah, but she was probably dead by 1842 for she wasn't named in the probate records filed that year naming Frederick's heirs.

Children of Frederick Floyd and Sarah (---). The 1800, 1810 and 1820 census records suggests they had several children. Probate records (Horry Co., SC Probate Judges Office, Box 15A, Packet 7, and Box 1, Packet 31, shared by Everett Floyd and Martha Miller) name the heirs as: Patrick Lewis and wife Ann, Henry Gerrald and wife Patience, Elias Jernigan and wife Mary, Right Floyd, Isaac Minsey and wife Jane, Samuel Gerrald and wife Katharine, Everett Floyd, Hardy Floyd and Frederick Floyd. These are dated 1842. Several of the heirs were not Horry residents, namely Samuel Gerrald, Samuel Floyd, Hardy Floyd, James Floyd and Everett Floyd. Their place of residence was not given in the probate record.

The 1820 census further proves that James Floyd is Frederick's son for he is listed as such on that record.

1.      Samuel F. Floyd (c1791)

2.      James Floyd (1790/1794)

3.      Nancy Floyd (c1793)

4.      Patience Floyd (c1795)

5.      Catherine Floyd (1794/1800)

6.      Mary Floyd (1794/1800)

7.      Unknown Son born ca 1794/1800

8.      Wright Floyd (c1802)

9.      Everett Floyd (1804/10)

10.  Jane Floyd (c1807)

11.  Hardy Floyd (1810/15)

12.  Frederick Floyd (c1814)

Samuel Floyd was born ca 1790/91 per his age on the 1850 census (59). He was named as an heir of Frederick in the undated probate record so he is proven. He was in Horry in 1820 and moved to Simpson Co., MS after that. See his own page for more on him.

James Floyd was born ca 1790/1794 per his ages on the 1820, 1830 and 1840 census. He was named as a son of Frederick on the 1820 census, and was also named in the probate record listing some of Frederick's heirs. He moved to Simpson Co., MS. See his own page for more on him.

Nancy Floyd was born ca 1792/93 per her age on the 1860 census (67), or ca 1794/95 per her age in 1850 (55). For some reason I think the 1860 entry is more accurate, but it is hard to be sure.

She and her husband Patrick Lewis was listed as heirs of Frederick Floyd in the probate record, though her name wasn't given.

Nancy appears to be home with her parents for the 1800 census, aged under 10 (1790/1800), and still home in 1810, aged 16-25 (1784/94).

Nancy married Patrick Lewis in the 1810's in Horry. He was born ca 1790/91 and was a son of William Lewis and Mourning Vampelt. (W. W. Sellers, A History of Marion Co., SC, 1902, pp. 480-483.) Mr. Sellers gave a good outline of the Lewis family in his book, though not much about Patrick.

Patrick Lewis was listed on the 1820 census in Horry.

1 Female(s) 0-4 (1835-1840) Adaline Lewis (c1837) daughter

They were listed on the 1850 census in Horry: Patrick Lewis 59, Nancy 55, Daniel 24, Margaret 20, Abo. G. W. 18 (male), Ema E. 16, Adaline 13, Z. H. 11 (female).

They are still in Horry for the 1860 census: Patrick Lewis 70 and Nancy 67.

I wasn't able to find either of them on the 1870 census.

Patience Floyd was born ca 1794/95 per her age on the 1860 census (65). She seems to be with her parents for the 1800 census, aged under 10 (born ca 1790/1800), and still home in 1810, aged 10-15 (1794/1800).

She married Henry Gerrald in the 1810's in Horry. He was also born ca 1795.

They are listed on the 1820 census in Horry.

1 Female(s) 0-4 (1835-1840) Elizabeth E. Gerald (c1839) daughter

They were listed on the 1850 census in Horry: Henry Gerald 54, Pilulah 50, Margaret 18, Samuel 16, Lucretia C. 14, Nancy 13, E. E. 11 (female). Patience's name is listed here just as it is on the census.

They were listed on the 1860 census in Horry apparently living with son Lewis Gerald, though they probably were in separate households and the census taker mis-numbered: Louis Gerald, 40, Margaret 31, Sarah M. 12, Wm P. 9, Mary E. 6, Kindred C. 3 (male), Anna E. 5/12, Henry Gerald 65, Patience 65, Saml. 22, Mantha 18, Elizabeth 16.

They are still in Horry for the 1870 census, listed in Floyds Township: Henry Gerald 75, Patience 70, Nancy 35, Elizabeth 32, Asbury Small 19.

I didn't find Henry or Patience on the 1880 census so they may have both died before then.

Catherine Floyd was born ca 1794/1800 per census analysis. She seems to be with her parents for the 1800 census, aged under 10 (born ca 1790/1800), and still home in 1810, aged 10-15 (1794/1800).

She married Samuel Gerrald in the 1810's in Horry. He was also born ca 1790/1800 per the 1830 census.

They are listed on the 1820 census in Horry, in fact there are three Samuels listed. I don't know if it is the one marked Junior or the one who had been marked Junior but was marked out. However their enumerations are identical except for the slaves.

For the 1830 census there were just two Samuels listed, one next door to Henry Gerald who married Patience Floyd (see above). The other was just a few houses away and is clearly Samuel Sr from 1820.

Samuel Gerald was not listed in Horry on the 1840 census. I didn't find him elsewhere either.

I was unable to find Samuel or Catherine on the 1850 census in Horry or elsewhere.

Mary Floyd was born ca 1794/1800 per census analysis. She seems to be with her parents for the 1800 census, aged under 10 (born ca 1790/1800), and still home in 1810, aged 10-15 (1794/1800).

She married Elias Jernigan in the 1810's in Horry. He was born ca 1794/1804 per the 1820 census.

I wasn't able to find them in 1830 in Horry or elsewhere. There was a man of this name in Irwin Co., GA that year but he is much too old to be the same person.

I have no further data on them.

Unknown Son born ca 1794/1800. Frederick Floyd may have had a son this age. He was with him in 1810 aged 10-15 (1794/1800), but he didn't seem to be with him back in 1800. That could be because this isn't actually a son of his, but someone who just happened to be living with him in 1810. Or it could be a son who was born in the year 1800 after the census taker came. He didn't appear to be with widow Sarah in 1820.
Wright Floyd was born ca 1801/02.  He married Demaris Adams, daughter of Abner and Jane (---) Adams of Marion District. See his own page for more information on him.
Everett Floyd was born ca 1804/10 per census analysis. Mark A. Floyd stated that he went to Simpson Co., MS. I have no further information on him.
Anna Jane Floyd was born ca 1806/07 per her age on the 1850 census (43). She was seemingly with her parents in 1810 aged under 10 (born ca 1800/10), and still home in 1820, aged 10-15 (1804/1810).

She married Isaac Mincey in the 1820's in Horry. He was born ca 1801/02 per his age on the 1850 census (48).

They are listed on the 1830 census in Horry next door to her brother Wright Floyd.
