Special thanks to Fred Johnson for data shared on this family.

Frederick Floyd was born 13 Jul 1788. This is based on his tombstone which shows his death date as 19 Oct 1840 and that he was 52 years, 3 months and 6 days old when he died. That calculates to 13 Jul 1788.

He was probably born in Georgetown District, now Horry County, South Carolina.

Frederick is a proven son of James Floyd and Elizabeth Page as named in their estate partition along with his children since he was dead by then.

Frederick appears to be with his parents for the 1790 census in Georgetown District aged under 16 (ca 1774/1790). He seems to be with his parents for the 1800 census aged under 10 (1790/1800) which isn't a perfect match but probably still him.

Frederick Floyd married Sarah Pitman in nearby Robeson Co., NC on 20 Feb 1809. They may have met while Frederick was visiting some of his mother's relatives in Robeson County. Sarah was born 22 Jul 1792 (per tombstone), in North Carolina, probably Robeson County. I don't know who her parents were. There were 24 Pitman households listed on the 1800 census in Robeson County! There were 3 Pitman households in Georgetown District, Kingston County, SC. Sarah could be related to all of these, but I don't know which are her parents. I wonder if she is closely related to Charity Pitman who married Pugh Floyd, Frederick's brother?

They are listed on the 1810 census in Horry. He is listed as Frederick "Jr" to distinguish himself from the older Frederick Floyd who could be his uncle, or at least his cousin.

They were on the 1820 census in Horry.  The older Frederick Floyd had died by then so this was the only Frederick listed in Horry.

They moved west to McNairy Co., TN in the 1830's and were listed there on the 1840 census. There was an Anna (or "Ama") Pitman (c1770/80) listed nearby. Could that be Sarah's mother?

Frederick Floyd died on 19 Oct 1840 (per tombstone) in McNairy Co., TN.

Sarah and some of the children were listed on the 1850 census in McNairy Co., TN in the Third District. Son Harmon Floyd was next door, and daughter Ann Eliza and her husband Francis D. Floyd were nearby: Sarah Floyd 58 NC, Tempirance 19 SC, Susannah 18 SC, Amanda 15 SC.

I wasn't able to find Sarah on the 1860 census, she may have died before then.

Children of Frederick Floyd and Sarah Pitman. The partition of the estate of James Floyd and Elizabeth Page lists the heirs of Frederick Floyd as of the early 1850's.

Frederick Floyd's heirs

Allen J. Floyd

Herman P. Floyd

Francis Floyd & Ann Eliza his wife

Rosa Angelina Floyd

Temperence Floyd

Susannah Floyd

Harriet Floyd

Whenever a wife is mentioned it is usually she who is the heir even though her name sometimes isn't given. That means that Ann Eliza, wife of Francis Floyd is probably Frederick's child and she married another Floyd. There are also a few other apparent children in the early census records who aren't mentioned in the estate. They may have died young or not been Frederick's children.

1.      Allen J. Floyd (c1813)

2.      Harmon P. Floyd (c1818)

3.      Ann Eliza Floyd (c1823)

4.      Rosa Angelina Floyd

5.      Temperance Floyd (c1831)

6.      Susannah Floyd (c1832)

7.      Harriet Floyd

8.      Amanda Floyd (c1835)

9.      Unknown Son (1810/15)

10.  Unknown Daughter (1810/15)

11.  Unknown Daughter (1820/25)

12.  Unknown Daughter (1825/30)

Allen J. Floyd was born ca 1812/13 in Horry Dist., SC. He was named in the estate partition of his grandparents James and Elizabeth Floyd as "Allen J. Floyd" an heir of Frederick Floyd. Allen went with his parents to TN and he later moved to Smith Co., MS. See his own page for additional information.

Harmon P. Floyd was born ca 1817/18 in Horry Dist., SC. He was named in the estate partition of his grandparents James and Elizabeth Floyd as "Hermon P. Floyd" an heir of Frederick Floyd. He went with his parents to McNairy Co., TN. See his own page for additional information.

Ann Eliza Floyd was born ca 1822/23 in Horry Dist., SC. She was named in the estate partition of her grandparents James and Elizabeth Floyd as "Francis Floyd & Ann Eliza his wife" an heir of Frederick Floyd.

She seems to be with her parents for the 1830 census aged 5-9 (1820/25) and still with them in 1840, aged 15-19 (1820/25). She married her cousin Francis D. Floyd in the 1840's presumably in McNairy Co., TN. See his page for additional information.

Rosa Angelina Floyd was named in the estate partition of her grandparents James and Elizabeth Floyd as "Rosa Angelina Floyd" an heir of Frederick Floyd. I don't know when she was born. There are three unidentified daughters in the family according to the early census records, one born ca 1810/15, one ca 1820/25 and another ca 1825/30. Rosa must be one of these, but I don't know which one. She was not with her mother for the 1850 census, nor listed on her own elsewhere as far as I could find. She may have been married by then.

Temperance Floyd was born ca 1830/31 in Horry Dist., SC. She was named in the estate partition of her grandparents James and Elizabeth Floyd as "Temperence Floyd" an heir of Frederick Floyd. If she was born in 1830 rather than 1831 (which is possible), then she is probably home with her parents for the 1830 census, aged under 5 (1825/30). She seems to be home in 1840 aged 10-14 (1825/30). She is with her widowed mother on the 1850 census ("Tempirance" age 19, born SC).

I didn't find her on the 1860 census so she may have married or died by then.

Susannah Floyd was born ca 1831/32 in Horry Dist., SC. She was named in the estate partition of her grandparents James and Elizabeth Floyd as "Susannah Floyd" an heir of Frederick Floyd. She seems to be home with her parents in 1840 aged 5-9 (1830/35). She is with her widowed mother on the 1850 census ("Susannah" age 18, born SC).

I didn't find her on the 1860 census so she may have married or died by then.

Harriet Floyd was named in the estate partition of her grandparents James and Elizabeth Floyd as "Harriet Floyd" an heir of Frederick Floyd. I don't know when she was born. There are three unidentified daughters in the family according to the early census records, one born ca 1810/15, one ca 1820/25 and another ca 1825/30. She must be one of these, but I don't know which one. She was not with her mother for the 1850 census, nor listed on her own elsewhere as far as I could find. She may have been married by then. It is also possible that Harriet and Amanda (see below) are one and the same person. That would make sense age-wise and also because Amanda wasn't named in the estate partition.

Amanda Floyd was born ca 1834/35 in Horry Dist., SC. She seems to be home with her parents in 1840 aged 5-9 (1830/35). She is with her widowed mother on the 1850 census ("Amanda" age 15, born SC).

She was not named in the Estate partition of her grandparents James and Elizabeth Floyd. It is possible she is the same person as Harriet Floyd who was named (see above). It is also possible that she isn't a child of Frederick but a grandchild instead, or a niece.

I didn't find her on the 1860 census so she may have married or died by then.

Unknown Son (1810/15). Frederick Floyd had an apparent son this age with him on the 1820 census, aged under 10 (1810/20). He was still home in 1830 aged 15-19 (1810/15), and possibly still home in 1840, aged 20-29 (1810/20), though in 1840 that could be Allen J. Floyd (c1813) instead.

This son wasn't named in the estate partition so he may have died before 1850.

Unknown Daughter (1810/15). Frederick Floyd had an apparent daughter this age with him on the 1820 census, aged under 10 (1810/20). She was still home in 1830 aged 15-19 (1810/15), but gone by 1840.

She wasn't named in the estate partition so she may have died before 1850. She could be the same person as Rosa Angelina Floyd who was named, but whose birth date is unknown.

Unknown Daughter (1820/25). Frederick Floyd had an apparent daughter this age with him on the 1830 census, aged 5-9 (1820/25), and still home in 1840 aged 15-19 (1820/25), but gone by 1850.

She wasn't named in the estate partition so she may have died before 1850. She could be the same person as Rosa Angelina Floyd who was named, but whose birth date is unknown.

Unknown Daughter (1825/30). Frederick Floyd had an apparent daughter this age with him on the 1830 census, aged under 5 (1825/30), but gone by 1840.

She wasn't named in the estate partition so she may have died before 1850. She could be the same person as Rosa Angelina Floyd who was named, but whose birth date is unknown.
