I should note that it isn't clear to me yet whether Loruhannah is a male
or a female. The name is very unusual and the records are few. There are
also records in Horry for a Loammi Floyd. Are they one and the same
person? Loruhannah Floyd was born ca 1783 or earlier. I base this on him/her witnessing a deed in 1797 and assuming he/she was at least 14 by then. His/her parents are unknown, but he/she was associated with Moses Floyd Sr so perhaps that is his/her father. He/she was not listed on the 1790 census in Georgetown District, so probably still with parents. On 9 Nov 1797 Moses Floyd Sr deeded 246 acres to David Rowland. North east side of Little Pee Dee on Savanah Creek, bordering Timothy McReady, Arthur Skipper and Moses Floyd. Witnesses were George Lewis, Abraham Skipper and Loruhannah Floyd. (Horry Co., SC Deed Book A1, page 176 online at Horry County Historical Society) On 14 Nov 1797 William Lewis and wife Winniford deeded 250 acres to Loammi Floyd Lewis his wife for £50, the land was on south east side of Little Pee Dee on Treadwell Creek. William and Winniford signed with a mark. Witnesses were Charles Skipper and William Skipper. (Horry Co., SC Deed Book A1, page 171 online at Horry County Historical Society) The way the above is worded makes it look like Loammi is William Lewis's wife, but that isn't correct, it must be a transcription error. I have not seen the original deed myself. On 4 Dec 1798 Moses Floyd Sr and wife Mary sold 570 acres to James Jordan. The land was on the south west side of Waccamaw River, north side of Maple Swamp on Pasture Branch bordering Joshua Long, Mr. Plyme, and Adam Jordan. Witnesses were Adam Jordan and Loruhannah Floyd. Mary Floyd relinquished her dower rights on 23 Apr 1800. (Horry Co., SC Deed Book A1, page 167 online at Horry County Historical Society) Loruhannah Floyd wasn't listed on the 1800 census in Georgetown District, Kingston County. He/she may have been in Georgia already by then. On 9 Jan 1801 Loammi Floyd of Burke Co., GA sold 250 acres to David Rowland for $100. The land was the same he/she purchased from William Lewis. The land was bordered by Timothy McReady, Ebenezer Skipper and Thomas Crawford. Witnesses were Reuben Heartsfield and James Booth. (Horry Co., SC Deed Book A1, page 179 online at Horry County Historical Society) I have no other records of Loruhannah Floyd or Loammi Floyd. The 1800 and 1810 censuses are lost for Georgia. No one of that name (or similar) is listed in Georgia on the 1820 census. |
