A note about sources

I (Marty Grant) am not related to the Benjamin L. Grant family as far as I know. I am very interested in him though.

Benjamin L. Grant was born ca 1804/05, presumably in Onslow Co, NC. I have him listed as a son of Solomon E. Grant based on an Article # 236 by Roger Kammerer, in Heritage of Onslow Co, NC. I haven't seen what proof was used to place Benjamin as a son of Solomon though, so I'll just take it on faith for right now.

Benjamin Grant married between ca 1820 and ca 1827 in Onslow Co, NC to his wife, who's name I haven't yet found. Whoever she was, she died ca 1846/1850 in Onslow Co, NC.

Benjamin was listed on the 1830 census in Onslow Co, NC on the same page as John Grant Sr

Benjamin had several young people in his household in 1830 that would seem to predate his suspected marriage date. They could be siblings of his, or of his wife.

In 1840, Benjamin was still in Onslow Co, NC, though not listed close to any of the other Grants.

I didn't find Benjamin in the 1860 census, though some of his children were still in Onslow County then, but the younger children were missing also.

I haven't done any comprehensive research in Onslow County yet.  There are probably numerous records awaiting discovery there on the various Grant families.

Children of Benjamin L. Grant are mostly proven by the 1850 census.

Elizabeth Ann Grant was born ca 1826/27 in Onslow Co, NC, presumably in Stump Sound District. She was with her father Benjamin on the 1850 census. She married Christopher Shephard 17 Jan 1860 in Onslow Co, NC.

Christian Grant was born ca 1834/35 in Onslow Co, NC, presumably in Stump Sound District. She was not with her father in 1850, and I haven't yet found her anywhere that census year. She married Thomas Williams 1 Dec 1851 in Onslow Co, NC. They were listed on the 1860 Onslow Co, NC census in Stump Sound District, and her sister Mary A. Grant was residing with them. That is the only evidence I have that Christian belongs to Benjamin L. Grant.

Daniel L. Grant was born ca 1836/37 in Onslow Co, NC, presumably in Stump Sound District. He was with his father Benjamin on the 1850 census. He married Caroline Piner 16 Feb 1858 in Onslow Co, NC. They were listed on the 1860 census in Onslow Co, NC in Stump Sound District.

Daniel was still in Onslow for the 1870 census, but I only have his name from the index, and not the original record yet.

Mary Amady Grant was born ca 1839/40 in Onslow Co, NC, presumably in Stump Sound District. She was with her father Benjamin on the 1850 census. In 1860, she was living with Thomas Williams and his wife Christian (Grant) (see above). Mary married James R. Williams on 30 Jan 1866 in Onslow Co, NC. He is a brother of Thomas Williams who married Christian Grant.

Kesiah Linza Grant was born ca 1841/42 in Onslow Co, NC, presumably in Stump Sound District. She was with her father Benjamin on the 1850 census. I didn't find her after that.

Martha Elmira Grant was born ca 1844/45 in Onslow Co, NC, presumably in Stump Sound District. She was with her father Benjamin on the 1850 census. I didn't find her after that.

Benjamin Lindsey Grant was born ca 1845/46 in Onslow Co, NC, presumably in Stump Sound District. He was with his father Benjamin on the 1850 census. I didn't find him after that.
