I (Marty Grant) am not related to John W. Grant as far as I know, but I am very interested in this family.
John W. Grant was born ca 1784/1794, presumably in Caswell Co, NC. I'm not sure who his parents were, but he is certainly a close relation to the James Grant and Ann Diskin family of Caswell County.
John was probably home with his parents for the 1790 and 1800 census. For the 1810 census, John Grant was listed as head of household, but with no other people in his household.

John W. Grant obtained a marriage bond on 16 Jul 1812 in Caswell Co, NC to marry Deborah Cobb. Alexander Murphy was the bondsman. Debora was born ca 1794/95 (per 1850 census) in Caswell County (per 1850 census). I don't know who her parents are.
John W. Grant was listed on the 1820 census in Caswell Co, NC. In fact, he was the only Grant head of household in Caswell at that time.

Sometime, apparently in the late 1820's, John W. Grant killed someone and was hung for the murder. I haven't seen the records on this, but Mary Stim told me about it. He supposedly had six children at the time of his death (4 were born already by 1820, and I know of one more born ca 1825, so there is at least one more, though we only have the names of two of the six so far).
I didn't find Deborah Cobb Grant on the 1830 or 1840 census. She may have been residing with members of the Cobb family in those years. She was listed as a head of household on the 1850 census in Caswell Co, NC.

Her daughter Pamela D. Grant (wife of Maximin Cobb) was listed next door to her in 1850.
Deborah Cobb Grant wrote her Will in 1851 in Caswell Co, NC. I haven't seen it yet, but perhaps it names all six of her children.
So far I've only identified two children for John and Deborah, but census records indicate they had more than this.

Pamela D. Grant was born ca 1812/13 in Caswell Co, NC. I don't have any direct proof that she is a child of John and Deborah, but she was living next to Deborah in 1850, and their really isn't anywhere else she might belong.
Maximin Cobb obtained a marriage bond on 25 Feb 1837 in Caswell County to marry "Pamelia D. Grant". Robert Madding was the bondsman. I haven't searched for them in 1840, but in 1850 they were listed next door to the widow Deborah Grant in Caswell County. ** I don't have this record typed up yet.
John C. Grant was born ca 1824/25 in Caswell Co, NC. He was at home with his widowed mother for the 1850 census. I haven't got any additional information on him yet.
