John Grant was born before 1765 per his age on the 1810 census
(over 45). I don't know where he was born or where he lived prior to
appearing in Richmond Co., NC in 1810. I don't know who John's parents are. He could be related to Mary (---) Grant (1765/84) who was in Richmond back in 1795 and in neighboring Marlboro Dist., SC in 1800. He could be related to a younger John Grant (c1780) who appeared in Richmond a few years after this John vanished from there. The ages of John Grant's apparent children on the 1810 census suggest that he was married before 1800, so therefore should appear on the 1800 census somewhere. Of course there were many John Grants around for that census, but none in Richmond or very close by. John Grant was on the 1810 census in Richmond Co., NC, the only Grant there at that time. Malachi Grant (c1790) was in neighboring Marlboro Dist, SC in 1810 and he later lived in Richmond. May not be any connection, but worth noting. John was listed between Robert Campbell (1765/84) and James McDonald (bef 1765). Perhaps researching them would help narrow down where John lived exactly. 1810 census analysis (based on available evidence): (Explanation of this census) 1810 Richmond Co., NC page 193 John Grant 31001-00001-0-0 Analysis: 1 Male 45+ (bef 1765) John Grant (bef 1765) 1 males 10-15 (1794/1800) Son? 3 males 0-9 (1800/1810) 1-Son? 2-Son? 3-Son? 1 Female 45+ (bef 1765) Wife? Of course there were many John Grants in other places in 1820, but none very near Richmond. The 1810 census is the last (and actually the only) record I have for John Grant. |
Children of John Grant. The 1810 census
record show four sons. A
Daniel Grant (1800/10) appears in Richmond in 1830. He could be
one of these sons.
