I (Marty Grant) am not related to the Mary A. as far as I know.

Mary A. Grant was born ca 1822/23 in NC, presumably New Hanover or Onslow Co, NC.

I don't know who her parents were, nor if she were a Grant by birth, or widowed from an unknown Mr. Grant. For the lack of evidence to the contrary, I'm assuming she was not a Grant by birth, and that she married a Mr. Grant sometime before 1843, and that he died before 1850.

Mary was listed on the 1850 census in New Hanover Co, NC with the Peter Padrick family. She was age 27, and there was another Mary A. Grant, age 7 living with them, who could be her daughter. This census would seem to indicate that Mary was a widow with a small daughter. Peter Padrick might be her brother, or perhaps Sally, wife of Peter, is her sister, or perhaps neither are related. .

There were no other Grant families nearby in 1850, though there were others in New Hanover County that same year.

Mary A. Grant (c1823) nor Mary A. Grant (c1843) were found listed on the 1860 census in New Hanover, or other nearby counties. I didn't find Peter and Sally Padrick in 1860 either.

I don't know if Mary A. Grant (c1823) was a widow of a Mr. Grant who died before 1850, or if she were a single mother.
