Richard Grant was born ca 1804/05 presumably in Northampton Co,
NC. I don't know who his parents might have been. There are several
possibilities.
Richard Grant obtained a marriage bond to marry Nancy Holland on 3 Dec 1827 in Northampton Co, NC. (1825/30) --> gone by 1840 On the 1840 census, Richard was still in Northampton, but again not too close to any other Grants. Next door was the Samuel Barnes family with Thomas Grant (c1835/36) living with him. Thomas was the right age to be one of Richard's children, but I don't think he is Richard's. No other Grant's were very close by. Some of Richard and Nancy's children are proven by the 1850 and 1860
census. There may be others. 1. Willie Grant was born ca 1829/30 in Northampton Co, NC. He was home with his parents in 1850. His name "Willie" isn't short for "William" since he had a brother named William. It could actually be "Willis" instead of "Willie". A Willis Grant obtained a marriage bond on 3 Oct 1850 to marry Lavenia Boyce, so that is probably him. I didn't find them in 1860. 2. Susan Grant was born ca 1832/33 in Northampton Co, NC. She was home with her mother in 1850, but gone by 1860. A Susan M. Grant married William J. Edwards 14 Jan 1858, this could be this Susan, or perhaps not. 3. William R. Grant was born ca 1837/38 in Northampton Co, NC. He was home with his mother in 1850 and 1860. 4. Jesse B. Grant was born ca 1839/39 in Northampton Co, NC. He was home with his mother in 1850 and 1860. 5. Huldah Matilda Grant was born ca 1840/41 in Northampton Co, NC. She was home with her mother in 1850 and 1860. In 1850 she was listed as "Huldah", but in 1860 as "Matilda", their ages make it clear it is the same person. 6. Almeda Grant was born ca 1842/43 in Northampton Co, NC. She was home with her mother in 1850 and 1860. 7. Nancy Grant was born ca 1843/44 in Northampton Co, NC. She was home with her mother in 1850 and 1860. |
