I (Marty Grant) am not related to Cornelius Hensley as far as I know.

Cornelius Hensley was born ca 1829/30 in North Carolina (per 1860 and 1870 census), probably in Buncombe, now Yancey County, or now Madison County.

Cornelius' parents are unknown, but according to Sharon Stephenson's research, his Civil War Pension records show him to be a cousin to Francis Hensley (son of James Hensley (c1795) and Mary Ann Ervin), so I'd wager that Cornelius' father (or mother) was a child of Colbert Hensley (1760/65) and Elizabeth Stanton. Sharon's research also shows that Cornelius' mother's maiden name might be "Shelton". This is a known Madison Co, NC name, so it would certainly be possible.

Cornelius was probably home with his parents for the 1830 and 1840 census, but since I don't know who his parents were, I can't confirm his location. He was still single as of 1850, but not listed anywhere on the 1850 census. He wasn't found among the North Carolina Hensleys, nor among the Greene County, Tennessee Hensleys (nor elsewhere), so probably just missed on that census. It is also possible that he was listed somewhere, but with the wrong surname.

On 7 Jun 1852, Cornelius Hensley obtained a marriage bond in Greene County, Tennessee to marry Eve Cutshall. They married the following day, on 8 Jun 1852. Eve was born ca 1832/33 in TN, presumably Greene County. I found her on the 1850 census with her father John Cutshall in Greene County.

They were listed on the 1860 census in Greene County in the 2nd District, just 2 pages from cousin Francis Hensley (mentioned earlier).

For the 1870 census, they were still in Greene Co, TN: Cornelius Hensley-39, Eve-38, John-16, Catura-14,  Jacob-13, Evaline-12, Hesekiah-11, James-5, Elisabeth J-3, Sarah C-9/12 (Aug).  (From "Hensley Households" by Laura Schreibman).

They were still in Greene County for the 1880 census, in District 12. Their name was spelled "Hinsely" on this record. ** I don't have this entry typed up yet.

I have no data on Cornelius and family beyond 1880.

Cornelius and Eve had nine children per the various census records. I have very little additional data on any of them yet, so not enough to give them their own sections here.
