I (Marty Grant) am not related to Elias Hensley as far as I know.

This family used the "Hinesly" (or similar) spellings fairly consistently. This seems to show they are part of the Chatham Co, NC family of that name.

Elias Hinesly was born ca 1811/12 (per 1850 census) in North Carolina (also per 1850 census). I don't know what county he was born in, but Chatham County seems the most likely.

Elias and his brother William Hinesly (c1811) were sons of William Hinsley (1765/74) of Chatham Co, NC, as proven by his Will.

Elias Hinesly was presumably home with his parents for the 1820 census. He would have been about 8 years old, so should be enumerated in the "under 10" age group. It isn't known when his family moved to Tennessee, so I don't know if he would be found in NC or TN in 1820. In Chatham County, NC, William Hinsley (bef 1775) had two sons in this age group, and Nathaniel Hinsley had one in 1820.

Elias Hinesly was presumably home with his parents for the 1830 census. He would have been about 18 years old, so should be enumerated in the 15-19 age group (born ca 1810/15). It isn't known when his family moved to Tennessee, so I don't know if he would be found in NC or TN in 1830. I saw none listed in Haywood County that year.

Elias Hinesly married Hannah --- sometime before ca 1835, presumably in Haywood County, Tennessee. Hannah was born ca 1814/15 in Alabama. I don't know her maiden name.

Elias was listed on the 1840 census in Haywood County, TN next to his brother William Hinesly.
