I don't know who his parents were.

Based on his age and his children's ages on the 1830 census, it would appear that he should be listed somewhere on the 1820 census as well. However, I wasn't able to find him in what is now West Virginia. There were a few Johns in Virginia that year, but none I can say was this same person. The one in Buckingham Co., VA in 1820 is a good possibility. It is also possible that John was already in Cabell by 1820 but not listed for some reason.

John is listed on the 1830 census in Cabell Co., VA (now WV). This census is alphabetical, so it isn't clear if he lived near the other Hensleys or not.

John wasn't listed in Cabell in 1840 or elsewhere in what is now West Virginia either as far as I could tell. There is a John in Cabell, but it is a younger man. There is also one in Kanawha, but that is a different person (and he was already there back in 1830 too).

I don't know if John Hensley died in the 1830's in Cabell or moved elsewhere.
