I (Marty Grant) am not related to John P. Hensley as far as I know.

John P. Hensley was born ca 1823/24 (per 1850 census) or ca 1824/25 (per 1860 census) in Georgia, (probably Franklin County). I don't know what the "P" middle initial stands for, but it could be "Payne", which is a family name.

I believe that John P. Hensley is a son of William Hensley and Sarah Payne, but I don't have any direct proof of that, but they did have an apparent son his age, and he did live very close to them.

John would have been about 5 years old for the 1830 census, so he should be enumerated in either the 5-9 age group (born ca 1820/25) or the "under 5" group (born ca 1825/30). William Hensley had a son age 5-9, which may be John.

In 1840 he would have been about 15 and William had an apparent son age 15-19 (born ca 1820/25).

On 28 Oct 1849, "J. P. Henslee" married Hannah Roddy in Saline Co, AR. Hannah was born ca 1831/32 in Tennessee, daughter of Isaac and Mary (---) Roddy (based on Isaac living with them in 1860).

They were listed on the 1850 census in Saline Co, AR, next door to sister Sarah Hensley Crawford and two houses from his parents and just a couple from her parents.

John and family were still in Saline County for the 1860 census in Jefferson Township, just a few houses from his parents. Hannah's widower father Isaac Roddy was now living with them. William Hale, age 18 was with them also, perhaps a nephew. Several Hales were with John's parents in 1860 also, perhaps all siblings to this one.

I don't have them on the 1870 census.

Children

John and Hannah (Roddy) Hensley had 2 children as of the 1860 census. I have no additional data on them so far.
