Jonathan R. Hensley was born ca 1813/14 per his age on the 1850 census (36). He was born somewhere in Virginia (per 1850 census) or perhaps in that part of Virginia that later became West Virginia.

I don't know who Jonathan's parents were. He was in Madison Co., IN in 1840, but was the only Hensley listed there at the time. He was in Cabell Co., VA (WV) in 1850 which was full of Hensleys, but he wasn't listed near any of them. I have no good clues as to his possible parentage.

Jonathan married Delilah B. Griffith on 31 Aug 1839 in Cabell Co., VA (WV). She was born ca 1819/20 in Virginia (both facts per 1850 census). I don't know who her parents were.

They are listed on the 1840 census in Madison Co., IN, the only Hensleys in that county at the time.

They remained in Indiana at least through ca 1844, but were in Cabell Co., VA (now WV) by ca 1848. (Based upon birth dates and places for their children.)

They are listed on the 1850 census in Cabell Co., VA as were several other Hensleys, but very far away.

I was unable to find any member of this family on the 1860 census in Cabell or elsewhere. They were still there in 1854 when a child Marion (the rest of the name was illegible) was born.
Children of Jonathan R. Hensley and Delilah B. Griffith. The 1840 census shows two apparent sons who didn't seem to be with the family in 1850. The 1850 census shows three apparent children. Nothing else is know of any of them so far.
