I (Marty Grant) am not related to Robert Hensley as far as I know.

Robert Hensley was born ca 1814/15 (per 1850 census) in Tennessee (per 1850 census), county unknown. He lived in Jefferson County later on, but it does not seem likely that he was born there, though perhaps in one of the neighboring counties where Hensleys did live circa 1815 (Knox, Grainger, Greene and Hawkins Counties).

I don't know who his parents were, but he is possibly associated with the Robert Hensley (c1800) family, who also lived in Jefferson County, Tennessee.

Presumably, Robert would have been home with his parents for the 1820 census, though this census was lost for eastern Tennessee.

He was probably home with parents in 1830. At his age, he could have been in either the 15-19 age group (born ca 1810/15) or the 10-14 age group (born ca 1815/20). I didn't find any likely households for him in 1830 in eastern Tennessee, though there were several who had apparent sons this age.

Robert Hensley married Mary A. --- sometime prior to ca 1838 perhaps in Tennessee or perhaps in Virginia. Mary was born ca 1816/17 in Virginia. Their two oldest children were also born in Virginia (ca 1838 and ca 1840), so perhaps they did marry in Virginia and live there a few years.

They should have been listed on the 1840 census somewhere. The birth places of their children show they ought to be listed in Virginia in 1840. I did not find a listing for him in Virginia nor Tennessee. It is possible he was missed by the census taker, or perhaps was residing with another family at that time (in-laws, for example).

Robert and family were listed on the 1850 census in Jefferson County. There were other Hensleys listed, but none close by.

I did not find Robert or his family members on the 1860 census. I don't know where they moved to, nor if they all died.

Children

Robert and Mary had four children as of 1850. I have no additional data on them.
