I (Marty Grant) am not related to Robert Hinesley as far as I know.

This family is actually "Hinesley", but sometimes records show them with the "Hensley" and "Hinsley" spellings. (See "Hensley Spellings" for more on this subject).

Robert Hinesley was born ca 1774/75 (per 1850 census) or ca 1764/65 (per 1860 census) in North Carolina. I would suspect he was born in Chatham County, but I have no direct proof of that. He did live there later on. There were other Hinesleys in Chatham County, several of which migrated to Georgia.

I don't know who Robert's parents were, but it seems very reasonable to associate him with the Chatham County, North Carolina Hinesley family. One of the elder Hinesleys there could be his father. He could be a son of old Benjamin Hinesley or old Nathaniel Hinesley, both of whom were old enough to be his father.

For the 1790 census, Robert would have been about 15 years old, so he should be enumerated in the "under 16" age group (born ca 1774/90). Benjamin Hinesley (bef 1755) and Nathaniel Hinesley (bef 1755) both had apparent sons this age in Chatham Co, NC.

For the 1800 census, Robert would have been about 25 years old, so he should be enumerated in the 16-25 age group (born ca 1774/84) or possibly in the 26-44 category (born ca 1755/74). Nathaniel Hinesley (bef 1755) of Chatham Co, NC had had apparent sons this age in 1800.  Joseph Hinsley (bef 1755) in Chowan Co, NC had sons that age also.

Robert Hinesley married someone (name unknown) in Chatham County, North Carolina before 1810.

Robert was listed on the 1810 census in Chatham County. I didn't find him originally, but on closer inspection I found him listed as Robert Hynsley. He wasn't near any of the other Hinesley families. He had several people with him who could be younger siblings.

1 Female(s) 0-9 (1800-1810)	Daughter? (1804/10)

Robert moved to Jones County, Georgia between 1810 and 1820. He was in Jones for the 1820 census. A Benjamin Hinesley and a John S. Hensley were also in Jones that year, Benjamin on the same page with him. He seems to have been about the same age, so a possible brother. He may be the same Benjamin who was in 1810 Chatham County also.

					Daughter? (1810/15)

Sometime before 1829, Robert's wife died, for on 26 Feb 1829, Robert married Jane Hicks in neighboring Jasper County. Jane was born ca 1774/75 in North Carolina. I don't know who her parents are.

Robert Hinesley was listed on the 1830 census in Jones County, Georgia. He was the only Hinesley there that year. He seem to have an "extra" son with him, possibly a hired laborer, or perhaps a son of Jane, if she were previously married.

1 Female(s) 15-19 (1810-1815)	Daughter? (1810/15)

Robert was listed on the 1840 census in Jones County still. And he was still the only Hinesley listed in the county.

They were still in Jones County for the 1850 census.

On 17 Jun 1857, Robert Hinesley made his Will in Jones County, Georgia naming his wife Jane, and daughters Dilly Irvin, wife of John; Polly Goolsby, wife of Kirby; and Cynthia Goodwin wife of Ruffin. He named his three son-in-laws as Executors. (Jones Co, GA Will Book D, shared by Laura Schreibman)

They were still in Jones County for the 1860 census.

John died sometime between 1860 and  4 Feb 1861, for on that latter date, his Will was proven in Court.

Children

Robert and his first wife seems to have had three daughters as named in his Will. Apparently he and Jane had no children together.
