I (Marty Grant) am not related to Spivey Hensley as far as I know.
Spivey Hensley was born ca 1811/12 (per 1850 census) in North Carolina, probably Orange County.
I suspect that Spivey Hensley is a son of Richard Henslee (c1775) and Sarah Johnson of Orange Co, NC. I base this connection on three facts. One, Richard did have an unknown son Spivey's age (per census analysis), and two, Richard's daughter Nancy J. Henslee, (who lived with him in 1860 and 1870), was living with Spivey in 1850. It would stand to reason that she was Spivey's sister, and three, Spivey lived in Orange County where Richard lived.
Spivey was probably home with his parents for the 1820 census, he would have been about 8 years old, so should be enumerated in the "under 10" age group (born ca 1810/20). Richard Henslee had 3 apparent sons this age with him in Orange County that year.

Spivey was probably home with his parents for the 1830 census, he would have been about 18 years old, so should be enumerated in the 15-19 age group (born ca 1810/15). Richard Henslee had 2 apparent sons this age with him in Orange County that year.
By 1840, Spivey would have been about 28 years old, so he should be enumerated in the 20-29 age group. Richard had two sons that age with him, though I can't say if one of these is Spivey or not. He was old enough to be head of household, but I did not see him listed anywhere on his own.
Spivey Hensley married Artelia F. --- sometime between 1840 and 1849. There is a marriage record in Caswell County for a John Henslee and Artelia Parks dated 24 Dec 1840. I have no other data on "John", so I wonder, could he and Spivey be the same person? Just a thought. Artelia F. --- was born ca 1821/22 in North Carolina. I don't know her maiden name (unless she is the Artelia Parks from the 1840 marriage record).
They were listed on the 1850 census in Person County, North Carolina (borders both Caswell and Orange Counties). Spivey's probable sister Nancy J. Hensley (c1822) was living with him.

Spivey and family moved to (or back to) Orange County in the 1850's. They were listed there on the 1860 census. ** I don't have this entry typed up yet.
They were probably still in Orange County for the 1870 census, but I don't have this yet.
They were in Orange County still in 1880 in Cedar Grove Township. ** I don't have this entry typed up yet.
Spivey and Artelia had several children per the various census records. I have no additional data on any of them so far.
