I (Marty Grant) am not related to Thomas H. Hensley as far as I know.
Thomas H. Hensley was born either ca 1750/60 or ca 1800/10, based on the 1840 census entry showing several adult males in the same household. There is no way to know which of them was Thomas. He may be the elder one, or one of the two younger males (in their 30's). I don't know where Thomas was born.
I know very little about Thomas. He is found on the 1840 census in Montgomery County, Tennessee, and, frankly that is the only record I have on him so far. That particular census records shows a household with one male age 80-89 (born ca 1750/60), 2 males age 30-39 (born ca 1800/10) and one female age 30-39 (ca 1800/10). This makes it somewhat difficult to determine who is who in the household.
For the 1840 census, Thomas was listed in Montgomery County, Tennessee. There were no other Hensleys in the county. His name was spelled Hinsley, so this might be a clue to the family origin. Many of the Chatham County, North Carolina families used this spelling, and "Thomas" was a common name in that bunch.
1840 census analysis (based on available evidence): (Explanation of this census)
1840 Montgomery Co, TN pg 228 Thomas H. Hinsley 0000020000100-0000010000000 Analysis: 1 Male(s) 80-89 (1750-1760) Thomas H. HINSLEY (1750/60) 2 Male(s) 30-39 (1800-1810) Son? Son? 1 Female(s) 30-39 (1800-1810) Daughter?
I did not find Thomas H. Hensley on the 1850 census. There was a Biddy Hensley age 22 (born ca 1827/28), born Ireland, living with a McClure family. I don't know if she is connected to Thomas or not, but she was the only Hensley in the county in 1850.
I have no data on any of Thomas' apparent children.
