I (Marty Grant) am not related to William H. Hensley as far as I know.

Additional data on this family was obtained from Pat McDonald, a cousin of mine who is interested in the Powell's, but not related to the Hensleys. She provided the various full birth and death dates and some marriage dates included below. Thanks Pat!

William H. Hensley was born ca 1822/23 (per 1850 census) or Feb 1821 (per 1900 census) in Tennessee, possibly Lawrence County. He lived there later on, but I don't know if he was born there or not.

William might be a son of Michael Hensley (c1785) who was nearby in Lawrence County, TN in 1850, and was there for many years before that. I'm not sure that William is even connected to Michael, but he could be his son, though it doesn't seem too likely. The 1880 census record for William shows his father was born in Virginia, and mother born in TN. This does not fit with Michael's family at all.

Presumably, William would have been home with his parents for the 1830 census. He would have been about 7 or 9 years old, so should be in the age 5-9 age group (born ca 1820/25). Michael Hensley had one son this age, but he is already accounted for. He could be there with Michael in an older age group, age 10-14 (born ca 1815/20).

For the 1840 census, William would have been enumerated in the age 15-19 group (born ca 1820/25). Michael Hensley was the only one in Lawrence County, and he did have an apparent son that age, but as previously mentioned, he is already accounted for.

William H. Hensley married Catherine Powell on 18 Feb 1844 in Lawrence Co, TN. Catherine was born ca 1824/25 in SC (Union District, SC per Pat McDonald).

William H. Hensley was listed on the 1850 census in Lawrence County, Tennessee. He was only four pages from Michael Hensley, so their must be some sort of connection there.

They were still in Lawrence for the 1880 census. ** I don't have this entry typed up yet.

I don't have death dates for William and Catherine.

Children

William and Catherine had 7 children per the various census records. Pat McDonald shared several birth, marriage and death dates for these children. Other than that, I have very little additional data on any of them so far.
