William H. Hensley was born ca 1831/32 per his age on the 1860 census (28). He was born in Virginia, but I don't know what county.

I don't know who his parents are. It is entirely possible that he is the same William H. Hensley (c1832) who was a son of John L. Hensley also of Rockbridge County. The reason I'm not sure is that John's son William was still home with him in 1860 while this other William was married with child by then and listed elsewhere in the county. They could still be one and the same though, but for now I don't know.

There were no Hensleys in Rockbridge on the 1830 or 1840 census. In 1850 only John L. Hensley was there with his family. As noted he did have a son named William H. Hensley this same age as this William. I found no other William Hensley in the area that could be this one.

William H. Hensley married Mary Elizabeth Slough sometime before ca 1859, presumably in Rockbridge County. She was born ca 1836/37 in Rockbridge County (presumably), a daughter of Augustus Slough and Mary (---). She is home with her parents in 1850 ("Elizabeth" age 13).

William and Mary are in Rockbridge for the 1860 census, in the same district with John L. Hensley but not very close to him.

William H. Hensley died sometime in the 1860's perhaps due to the Civil War (1861-1865).

Mary and children were with her parents on the 1870 census, though not listed with her proper surname. She was listed as Elizabeth. Charles, Franklin and Willie are her children. The youngest child James W. may not be hers.

Mary was with a Beard family in 1880 listed as a house keeper. I don't know if she is related to them or not.

I don't know when Mary died, though sometime after 1880.
