Patton Genealogy - North Carolina
Welcome to my Patton genealogy pages. I am interested in the Patton surname in North Carolina.
Patton was the 464th most common surname in the United States in 2000. It dropped to 506th by 2010.
My most recent Patton ancestor is my 6 times Great Grandmother, Margaret Patton. She was born ca 1753/1755. She married William Moore in 1774 in Rowan Co., NC. They lived in (or moved to) the part of Rowan that later became Burke County, then later became Buncombe County. William died there in 1812, Margaret in 1814.
Margaret is a proven child of Charity Patton per her 1774 marriage bond. Charity was the widow of Robert Patton (c1715-1772). Charity’s maiden name is unknown. Robert’s parents are also unknown. It is thought that he is a brother of John Logan Patton (c1718-1770), but I don’t know what the proof for that is.
I have only done a modicum of Patton research thus far, so I’m not an expert on this family.
