In February 2006 I transcribed the Washington County,
Virginia Land and Personal Property Tax Lists (1782-1815) from the
microfilm copies of the original records. I only got the Pemberton and
related families.
The "Personal Property" tax lists include every white male
over age 16 (or over 21 in some cases), referred to as polls, tithes,
tithables, etc. The number of horses, cattle and slaves are also included
on some of the lists.
The Land Tax lists are simpler, they show the name of the
landowner and each tract of land they own showing the acreage.
In the tables below I'll include the tax list data using
the original spellings. The last column will be comments or a link to the
web page for that family or person.
