I (Marty Grant) am a 1st Cousin 6 times removed of James Stroud.

James Stroud was born ca 1825/26 (per 1850 census) in Tennessee. I don't know what county he was born in. It was either Dickson County or Obion County.

James Stroud is a proven son of Jesse and Tabitha (Hicks) Stroud and was named as such in Jesse's Will of 1834. His father listed him as "James" and as a child of his by his second wife Tabitha.

James was apparently home with his parents for the 1830 census in Obion Co, TN age "under 5" (born ca 1825/30), and apparently home with his widowed mother in 1840, age 10-14 (born ca 1825/30).

On or about 18 Jan 1848 James Stroud married Mary Haley in Obion Co, TN. I don't know if the marriage date is the actual date of marriage or the date of a marriage bond. Mary was born ca 1830/31 in Tennessee. I don't know who her parents were.

James was listed on the 1850 census in Obion County next door to his widowed mother. Tennessee Haley age 8 was with them. Was she Mary's sister? Or Niece?

I have no data on them after 1850. Unfortunately there are no decent 1860 census indexes for Tennessee.

James and family moved to Newton County, Missouri sometime after 1850. At some point (after 1850), Mary died and James married Amanda Bushart (thanks to Lillie Eaton for this information).

I checked the 1880 Newton Co, MO census, and there is a widow Amanda Stroud listed there. If that is the same Amanda, then James died before 1880. One problem is that Amanda had a son William with her in 1880, aged 22 (born ca 1858). Now James had a son William born circa 1849, so that doesn't seem to match. More research is needed though, to properly sort this out.

James and Mary had one child by 1850, and probably many more afterwards.
