My most recent Tanner ancestor is Emily A. Tanner (1840-1875) who married Jacob J. Waters 1861 in Towns Co., GA. Emily is a child of John Tanner (c1802-aft 1880) and Susannah Stroud who married ca 1820 in Burke (now McDowell) Co., NC.
John's parents are unknown, but I suspect he is a son of Joseph Tanner who was in the Rutherford and Burke area when John was young.
