I (Marty Grant) don't know how (or if) I'm related to John Turner.

John Turner was born before 1755 per his age on the 1800 census (age 45 and up). I don't know where he was born, but he lived in Darlington District, SC by 1800.

The first record I find for John is his 1800 census entry in Darlington District. He may be the same person as John Bow Turner who was listed on the 1790 census in Cheraw District, since Darlington was formed from Cheraw in 1798 (effective 1800). The only reason I'm not sure they are one and the same is that John Bow Turner had a large family (and slaves) in 1790, but John Turner in 1800 was alone, though with some slaves.

The 1790 census shows John Bow Turner in Cheraw District. He was next door to Martha Scarff and William Jackson. In 1790 Cheraws District covered what is now Chesterfield, Darlington, Marlboro, and part of Florence County, so I don't know where John Bow Turner was living exactly. If he is the same man as John Turner of 1800 Darlington, then he was probably in the Darlington region.

1790 census analysis (based on available evidence): (Explanation of this census)

1790 Cheraws District, SC John Bow Turner 2-3-3*-0-14 (3 written over by 0)
Analysis:
2 Male(s) 16 and Up (before 1774)	Joh Bow TURNER (bef 1755)
					Son?
3 Male(s) under 16 (1774/1790)	Son?
					Son?
					Son?
3 Female(s) any age (before 1790)	Wife
					Daughter?
					Daughter?

By 1800, several county changes had occurred, Cheraws had been divided into Chesterfield, Darlington and Marlboro, and the original Cheraw (or "Cheraws") was gone.

The 1800, there were no Turners in Chesterfield, but quite a few Turners in Marlboro District and only one in Darlington (John). Now this is either the same John as John Bow Turner, or else a new John Turner had moved into the area.

If this is the same John, this his wife and family had all left home and / or died by 1800 for he was living alone that year (excepting for 4 slaves).

1800 census analysis (based on available evidence): (Explanation of this census)

1800 Darlington Dist, SC pg 128 John Turner 00001-00000-0-4
Analysis:
1 Male(s) 45 & up (before 1755)	John Bow TURNER (bef 1755)

I did not find John after 1800. The 1810 census for Darlington showed an Ephraim Turner and he was the only Turner there that year.

So that means that John either died 1800-1810 or moved away somewhere.
