I (Marty Grant) don't know how or if I'm related to the Archibald Campbell family. I am very interested in him though.

Special thanks to Troy Keefe and Tom Keefe for data shared on this family. Check out Troy's Campbell web page with information on this family at: http://www.geocities.com/wmokeeffe/campbell.html

Archibald Campbell was born ca 1780/1790, whereabouts unknown, possibly Marion Dist, SC.

Archibald Campbell was always listed close to the Samuel A. Campbell family. They weren't listed as neighbors, but were one page apart in both 1830 and 1840. I don't know how, or if, they are related.

Archibald Campbell married Ann --- before 1815, but I don't know where. They were not listed on the 1810 or 1820 census in Marion Dist, SC (though two other men named Archibald Campbell were listed in 1810, just one in 1820).

This Archibald Campbell first appeared on the 1824 Marion Dist, SC tax list, where he was charged either 25 cents or 42 cents, depending on which listing was him. It is possible neither of these were him, but were one of the two older Archibald's.

Archibald Campbell was listed on the 1830 census in Marion Dist, SC. The other nearest Campbell was Samuel Campbell was one page away (but this list was alphabetical, so nearness doesn't mean much).

Archibald Campbell was listed on the 1840 census in Marion Dist, SC. Again, the nearest other Campbell was Samuel Campbell, just one page away. A transcribed version of this census lists him as "Isick" Campbell. He was in the neighborhood of the Keefe family and other known relatives or in-law relations.

Archibald Campbell died sometime in the 1840's. His widow Ann, was listed on the 1850 census residing with her married daughter Hannah Campbell Moore. I  can't be sure where they were living exactly, but based on some of the neighbors, I think this was in the part of Marion that later became Florence County (in 1888) either in Pee Dee, Cain or McMillan Township. Stephen Keefe, a grandson of Archibald was in Cain Township later on, so that may be where they were all along.

There was a Hector Campbell listed 12 households away. This turned out to be a false lead, as even though the 1850 census clearly shows Hector Campbell, in fact, he was Hector Cameron, as proven by numerous records. The 1850 census taker just messed up in this case.

Children

Archibald Campbell and Ann's children were proven in the Marion County Probate records (thanks to Troy Keefe for pointing this out to me).

Elizabeth Campbell was born ca 1811/12 in Marion Dist, SC, though it is possible she was born somewhere else. She had a daughter (Mary Campbell) born out of wedlock. She later married William Keefe Sr (thanks to Troy Keefe for this data). They married in 1840, and he died in 1842. Elizabeth had one child (Hannah) with William Keefe, and then some time after his death had another child out of wedlock (Stephen Keefe).

The 1840 census shows someone Elizabeth's age with her father Archibald Campbell, but it isn't known when she married William Keefe other than "1840", but it appears it was after the census was taken as his household contained no woman her age.

In 1850 Elizabeth was listed in Marion Dist, an apparent widow.

Elizabeth Keefe was listed on the 1860 census in Marion Dist, SC. Her household consisted of "Elizabeth Keefe" age 50; Stephen, age 7; "Hanah Erskin" age 18, Henry S. age 1. I don't know what became of Mary Keefe (Campbell). She was probably married by this time. Two houses from Elizabeth Keefe was a Robert Finklea and wife Mary age 23 which is a perfect match in age, but I don't want to jump to any conclusions. I have no idea if that is the same Mary.

Hannah Campbell was born ca 1813/14 in Marion Dist, SC (per the 1850 census), though it is possible she was born somewhere else. She married Hial Moore ca 1840/42 in Marion Dist, SC. They were listed on the 1850 census, but I didn't find them after that.
