I (Marty Grant) don't know how or if I'm related to the Levi Campbell family. I am very interested in him though.
Levi Campbell was born ca 1809/10 in Marion Dist, SC, possibly in Reaves Township. He later went to Carmichael Township (now Dillon County). I don't know for sure who his parents are, but I strongly suspect he is a son of Dempsey Campbell. That would make him a possible sibling to the three Campbell sisters: Mary, Milly and Martha Campbell. I have no solid proof that they were children of Dempsey either, so all of this is speculative.
In the 1820 and 1830 census, Dempsey Campbell had a son the right age to be Levi. In 1840, Dempsey's son (born 1800/10) was no longer with him, but Levi Campbell was listed as head of household very near Dempsey (same page). This isn't conclusive proof, but it works fairly well. Other evidence would be helpful though.
Levi Campbell married his first wife (name unknown) between 1830 and 1836 in Marion Dist, SC.
On 4 Apr 1837 Levi Campbell was mentioned in the Inventory of James C. Bellune's Estate as having a note due (meaning he owed Bellune money). This does not imply a relationship, but only that they were associated in some way. (Marion Dist, SC Inventory Book 1827-1836 pg 96 as published in the Pee Dee Queue)
Levi Campbell was listed on the 1840 census in Marion Dist, SC near Dempsey Campbell, which is one of the reasons I suspect he is Levi's father. Dempsey had a son this age in 1830, who was no longer with him in 1840, so that helps my case. Based on an analysis of some of their neighbors in 1840, I'd say they lived in Reaves Township at that time.

Levi's wife died before 1850. He and his son Michael were listed together in Marion Dist, SC in 1850. His neighbors in 1850 were mostly the same as those in 1840, so he was still in Reaves Township, apparently, though I'm not entirely sure that is where he lived.

I didn't find Levi Campbell in the 1860 census, though I found his son Michael listed, apparently still in the Reaves Township area. I don't know if Levi moved away temporarily, or was just missed (or mismarked) for the 1860 census.
Levi Campbell was back in Marion for the 1870 census, and listed in Carmichael Township (now Dillon County). He had remarried sometime circa 1855 to Sarah ---.

Simeon Campbell reported in his diary that Levi Campbell died "suddenly" on 30 Oct 1870.
I didn't find Sarah and the children in the 1880 census. She may have remarried, and the children were listed under her new name, or else she had left the county.
Levi Campbell and his first wife apparently had two sons, per the 1840 and 1850 census. Levi Campbell and his second wife had several children, as proven by the 1870 census.
Unknown Son born ca 1830/35. He was with Levi in the 1840 census, but no longer with him in 1850, so had probably married or died by then.
Michael C. Campbell was born ca 1835/36 in Marion Dist, SC, presumably in Reaves Township. He was home with his father for the 1850 census.
He married before 1858 to Rebecca ---- and they were listed on the 1860 census in Marion Dist, SC, apparently in Reaves Township.

For the Civil War, Michael enlisted in Company L, 21st Regiment Infantry, SC Volunteers as a Private. He was killed at Battery Wagner, in Sep 1863. (Per Sellers, page 573)
I didn't find his widow and children in 1870 or 1880 census in Marion Co, SC.
