I (Marty Grant) don't know how I'm related to George Collins. He may be related to my ancestor Jonah Collins (c1774), though I don't know how.

George Collins was born before 1790, probably at least as far back as ca 1765 or so, and that is just a guess. I can't narrow it down any better than that now, for I don't have enough records to use to base it on.

George was not listed on the 1786 tax list for either Prince George or Prince Frederick Parish, SC.

George was listed on the 1790 census in Georgetown District, Prince George Parish. Unfortunately this census was alphabetical, so we can't tell where he lived exactly or who his neighbors were. His entire family was listed in the "Other" column, which is for those who were considered "Free Colored", which is the category for free Africans, or others who were not considered "white" by the census taker.

1790 census analysis (based on available evidence): (Explanation of this census)

Marion District was formed in 1798 (effective 1800) from Georgetown District.

George Collins was not found in Marion (nor nearby counties) for the 1800 census. He either moved away or died before that time.

A deed dated 13 Oct 1792 seems to solve the mystery. On that date, George Collins of Richmond Co, NC, Planter, sold land to Daniel McInnis, being 100 acres on South west side of Little Peedee and Hurricane Branch. Witnessed by Daniel Moye, Robbin Marsh. (Marion Co, SC Deed Book I, page 166, from "Marion County South Carolina Abstracts of Deeds Volume Two Books F-I & K 1811-1823", by Lucille Utley, and Alita White Sutcliffe, 1997.)

Children

George and wife may have had 5 children, if those 7 "others" in 1790 were George, his wife, and 5 kids, but it is impossible to say who they were with any certainty.
