I (Marty Grant) am a 3rd Great Grand Nephew of Joshua Collins.
Joshua Collins was born ca 1824/25 in Marion Dist, SC.
Joshua Collins is a proven son of Jonah Collins (c1774) and his first wife (or possibly from the second marriage to Sarah ---).
Joshua was apparently home with his parents for the 1830 census (age 5-9, born ca 1820/25).
Joshua Collins married Charity --- ca 1840 in Marion Dist, SC. She was born ca 1819/20 (per 1850 census) or ca 1804/05 per the 1860 census, and the 1870 census is close with ca 1805/06. I don't know what her maiden name is.
They were listed on the 1840 census in Marion District, but not near any of the other Collins families.

Joshua Collins and family were listed on the 1850 census in Marion County, just a few houses from William Collins (c1828) his brother.

I had originally assumed that Joshua died in the 1850's, for Charity was listed as head of household on the 1860 census. However, recently, Jo Dickerson found Jonah Collins's Estate records (he was Joshua's father), and in those records it said that Joshua abandoned his wife and kids and moved away to parts unknown. He apparently did this in the 1850's. I have not attempted to track him down yet.
Charity was listed on the 1860 census in Marion District, but not close to any other Collins households.

Charity was listed on the 1880 census in Pee Dee Township with her son Uriah. ** I don't have this entry typed up yet.
Charity died sometime between 1880 and 1884, for in the Jonah Collins Estate settlement records (dated 1884-85), she was listed as deceased.
Joshua and Charity had three children as proven by the census records, and also named in their grandfather Jonah Collins' estate records. They apparently had a daughter also per the 1840 census, but she probably died before 1850.
Unknown Daughter (1835/40). Joshua Collins had an apparent daughter this age with him in 1840 (age "under 5", born ca 1835/40). She was not with the family in 1850, so probably dead by then. She was not named as an heir in the Jonah Collins Estate records.
Joshua Edward Collins was born ca 1840/41 in Marion Dist, SC. He was home with his parents for the 1850 census ("Joshua" age 9), and with his mother in 1860 ("Edward" age 19).
For the Civil War, J. E. Collins, served as a Private in Company F, Tenth Regiment Infantry.
("A History of Marion County, South Carolina", 1902, by W. W. Sellers, Esq, Pages 628-631)Joshua married Luarka Prosser before ca 1866. She was a daughter of John and Mary (---) Prosser.
They were listed on the 1870 census in Pee Dee Township just two houses from his mother.

I didn't find them on the 1880 census, so they must have moved away somewhere.
Uriah Hodges Collins was born 6 Mar 1842 (per tombstone) in Marion Dist, SC. He was home with his parents for the 1850 census ("Hodges" age 7), and with his mother in 1860 ("Uriah" age 16).
For the Civil War, Uriah H. Collins, served as a Private in Greggs Battery, Co. D, Manigaults Battalion Artillery

Uriah was listed on the 1880 census in Pee Dee Township. His mother was with him, and some other folks too. ** I don't have this entry typed up yet.
Samuel J. Collins was born ca 1844/45 in Marion Dist, SC. He was home with his parents for the 1850 census ("Samuel" age 5), and with his mother in 1860 ("Samuel" age 14).
Samuel married Elizabeth C. Basin before ca 1867. Elizabeth was born ca 1844/45, daughter of Caswell Basin and Elizabeth ---. (Probate Roll # 1218, published in "Probate Records, Marion County, South Carolina Volume Two", by Lucille Utley, Danny Smith, 1985).
They were listed on the 1870 census in Pee Dee Township next door to his mother.
