I (Marty Grant) don't know how I'm related to the William Collins family. I am sure he is somehow related to my ancestor Jonah Collins (c1774).

William Collins was born before 1755, possibly in SC, or perhaps in another state. I don't know who his parents might have been. He was listed in his estate records as William Collins of Jeffries Creek, Peedee. This probably puts the family in Jeffries Township (now Florence Co, SC).

William married Catherine Jolly sometime before 1790. She was a daughter of Joseph and Sophia (---) Jolly as proven by Joseph's Will dated 25 Jul 1798 in Liberty County (now Marion County), SC.

He was in the Marion County area prior to 1786. He was listed on the 1786 Tax list for in Prince Frederick Parish, and listed with 100 acres.

He was listed on the 1790 census in Georgetown District, Prince George Parish. Unfortunately this census was alphabetical, so we can't tell where he lived exactly or who his neighbors were.

1790 census analysis (based on available evidence): (Explanation of this census)

1790 Georgetown Dist, SC Prince George Parish pg 53 William Collins 1-1-3-0-0

Marion District was formed in 1798 (effective 1800) from Georgetown District.

William Collins was listed on the 1800 census in Marion District. He wasn't listed near any other Collins families.

William Collins died before 25 Jul 1800 in Marion District, SC, for on that date his widow Catherine Collins was appointed as Administrator of his estate. (Marion Co, SC Administrations Book A pg 5 as published in Pee Dee Queue)

I did not find his widow Catherine on the 1810 census, so she may have been dead by then, or perhaps remarried, or just residing with a son or daughter.
