Additional Information

Cathey:

Notes:

!NOTES:This *could* be the John Cathey of the 1748 Lunenburg Co., VA tax list and the 1773 Dunmore (Shenandoah) Co., VA jury list;

(01) Henry Cathey:

Notes:

!NOTES:For more detailed documentation and analysis, see my web page for this family:
http://martygrant.com/genealogy/cathey/cathey-frederick-shenandoah-va.html

!NOTES:Although there are two records that distinctly refer to him as Henry Cathey, there is the possiblity that both of them actually refer to Henry Calfee instead. That surname is sometimes spelled Calfey which can easily be misread as Cathey if one isn't careful;

!NOTE:On 23 Nov 1773, Henry Cathey and John Cathey served on a jury of the Shenandoah Court. (Order Book 1772-1774, Shenandoah Co., VA abstracted by Amelia C. Gilreath, publ. 1986. p. 166, p 250, shared by Boyt Cathey)

(03) Edward Cathey:

!NOTES:The Preston and Virginia Papers of the Draper Collection of Manuscripts
Virginia Manuscripts, p. 173
12 Sep 1776 John Johnson, receipt to Thomas Madison for L3, 15s for linen for Cherokee expedition. Witnessed by Edward Cathey, D.S.

* The Cherokee Expedition was in 1776. Col. William Christian commanded the Virginia volunteers. He was born in Augusta Co., VA and resided in Fincastle in 1776.

* Thomas Madison (1746-1798) resided in Botetourt Co., VA in 1776.

* "D.S." can mean Deputy Surveyor or Deputy Sheriff.;

!NOTES:I found no Cathey deeds in Botetourt through 1800;

(07) Jacob Cathey:

Notes:

!NOTES:For more detailed documentation and analysis, see my web page for this family:

!NOTES:This person is not a Cathey but a Cockley. However, a 1771 deed was mistranscribed in a published book as Cathey when it was actually Cakley, a badly spelled Cockley;
